MARY FAIRBANKS (1622–1673), daughter of Jonathan Fairbanks and Grace Smith


Michael, the son of Michael and Sarah Metcalf, was born on 29 August 1620 in St. Benedict's, Norwich, co. Norfolk England. [1][2] He died on 25 March 1654 in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. [2][3] He married Mary Fairbanks on 2 April 1644 in Dedham. [1][3]

Mary, the daughter of Jonathan and Grace (Smith) Fairbanks, was born on 3 February 1621/2 in Halifax, Yorkshire. [2] She was baptized there on 18 April 1622. [2] She died on 12 February 1672[/3?] in Dedham. [2][3] She married second Christopher Smith on 2 August 1654 in Dedham. [2][3][4][5] He died on 7 November 1676 in Dedham. [2]

Mary's father refers to her as the wife of Christopher Smith in his will of 4 June 1668.

i. Michael Metcalf was born on 21 January1644/5. He died on 1 or 2 September 1693. He married Elizabeth Fuller.

ii. Mary Metcalf was born on 15 August 1646. [3] She was baptized the next day in Dedham. [3] She died there on 22 March 1676/7. [2][6] She married Captain John Ware on 10 December 1668 in Dedham. [1][2][3][6] John was the son of Robert and Margaret (Hunting) Ware and the grandson of John Hunting, the first ruling elder of the Dedham church. [2][6] He was born on 6 October 1646 in Dedham and died on 7 April 1718 in Wrentham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. [2][6] He married second Joanna Gay on 24 March 1678/9 in Dedham. [2][6] Joanna was the daughter of John and Joanna (Baldwicke) Gay of Dedham and the widow of Nathaniel Whiting, Jr. [2][6] John married third Dorothy, the widow of Nicolas Wood of Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on 21 December 1709 in Sherborn. [6] Dorothy, the widow of Captain John Ware, died on 10 December 1728 in Sherborn. [6]

iii. Sarah Metcalf was born on 7 December 1648. [3] She died on 13 April 1717 in Wrentham. [2] She married Robert Ware of Wrentham on 4 June 1677 in Dedham. [1][2][3][4] Robert, the brother of Sarah's sister Mary's husband, was born on 1 August 1653 in Dedham and died on 16 September 1724 in Wrentham. [2] He married second Elizabeth Holbrook on 26 February 1719/20 in Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [2] Elizabeth was born on 25 February 1651 in Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts and died on 28 July 1723 in Wrentham. [2]

iv. Deacon Jonathan Metcalf was born on 21 September 1650. [3] He was baptized eight days later in Dedham. [3] He died there on 23 May 1727, age 77. [2][3] He married Hannah Kenrick on 10 April 1674 in Dedham. [1][4] Hannah, the daughter of John and Anna (Satwell) Kenrick, was born on 20 March 1651/2 in Boston. [2] She died on 23 December 1731 in Dedham. [1][2]

v. Deacon Eleazar Metcalf was born on 2 March 1653. [3] He was baptized four days later in Dedham. [3] He died on 13 September 1704 in Wrentham and is buried in the Wrentham Center Cemetery. [2] He married Meletiah Fisher on 9 April 1684 in Dedham. [2] Meletiah, the daughter of Samuel and Meletiah (Snow) Fisher, was born on 1 May 1667 in Dedham, was baptized there on 5 May 1667, and died on 23 September 1719. [2]

Eleazar was a deacon at Wrentham. [1]

i. John Smith was born on 19 November 1655 in Dedham. [2] He died on 7 October 1722 in Needham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. [2]
