ROGER MOWRY (by. c. 1610–1667)
MARY JOHNSON (bp. 1614–1679), daughter of John Johnson and Mary Heath
Roger Mowry was born by about 1610. [1] He died on 5 January 1666/7 in Providence. [1] He married Mary, the daughter of John and Mary Johnson of Roxbury. [1][2]
Mary, the daughter of John and Mary (Heath) Johnson, was baptized on 31 July 1614 in Ware, Hertfordshire. She was buried on 6 January 1678/9 in Rehoboth. [1] She married first John Kingsley on 14 January 1673 in Rehoboth. [1]
Roger migrated in 1630 and settled in Salem. [1] He moved to Lynn by 1646 and Providence by 1652. [1] He was a freeman on 18 May 1631. [1]
Roger was a neat herd [that is, a cowherd] in Salem from 1636 to 1641. [1] He was an innkeeper in Providence by 1655. [1]
Roger was a constable in Providence in 1655. [1] He was one of six men to hear cases in Providence in 1662. [1] He was a frequent juryman in Providence. [1]
Roger's will is missing. His estate was insolvent. [1]
Children of Roger Mowry and Mary Johnson:
i. Lieutenant Jonathan Morey was born about 1632. He died on 19 May 1708. He married first Mary Bartlett. He married second Hannah (Pincon) (Young) Wetherell.
ii. Appia (Bethiah) Morey was baptized on 17 June 1638 in Salem. [1] She married George Palmer on 30 September 1662. [1]
iii. Mary Morey was baptized on 16 January 1639/40 in Salem. [1] There is no further record of her. [1]
iv. Elizabeth Morey was baptized on 27 March 1642 in Salem. [1] She died after 1690 when she appears in an accounting of her brother John's estate. [1] She was apparently unmarried. [1]
v. Nathaniel Morey was born say 1643. [1] He married Joanna, the daughter of Edward Inman, after 28 August 1690, when they made their intention in Providence. [1]
vi. Mehitable Morey was born say 1644. [1] She married first Eldad Kingsley on 9 May 1662 in Providence. [1] She married second as his second wife Timothy, the son of Henry Brooks, by 1685. [1]
vii. John Morey was born say 1646. [1] He married Mary ___ by 1674. [1]
viii. Joseph Morey was born say 1647. [1] He married Mary, the daughter of William Wilbur, by 1672. [1]
ix. Benjamin Morey was born on 8 May 1649. [1] He was baptized on 20 May 1649 in Salem. [1] He married Mary (Hazard) Potter, the daughter of Thomas and Martha Hazard and widow of Ichabod Potter. [1]
x. Thomas Morey was born on 19 July 1652 in Providence. [1] He married Susanna Newell on 6 September 1673 in Roxbury. [1]
xi. Hannah Morey was born on 28 September 1656 in Providence. [1] She married Benjamin Sherman on 3 December 1674 in Portsmouth. [1]
