Poolesville, Montgomery county, Maryland
The brothers John and Joseph Poole came to the area of modern Poolesville from Anne Arundel county in 1760. At this time, the area in and around what is now Poolesville was known as the Sugarland Hundred and it was part of Frederick county. In 1776 the Maryland General Assembly created Montgomery county out of part of Frederick County. The town was incorporated in 1867.
