I-B-3-b. DAVID MADDEN SIBERT (1884 – 1955), son of Adolphus Jessie Sibert⁴ (Henry³, David², John David¹)

David "Dave" Madden Sibert was born on 25 December 1884. He died on 24 September 1955, aged 70, in Grove Oak, DeKalb County, Alabama. [1][2] He married Eppie A. Wilson on 3 January 1904 in DeKalb County. [3] She was born on 24 May 1885. She died on 27 August 1951. [4]

David and Eppie are buried in the Tenbroeck Baptist Church Cemetery in Tenbroeck, DeKalb County. There gravestones say: [5]

There is also a large inscribed stone for their family, shown on the right.

According to the census, in 1910, David, aged 24, and Effie, aged 24, lived in Graham, DeKalb County with their children Vasco, aged five; Bernard, aged three; and Remell, aged one. David and Effie had been married six years, and Effie had had three children. David was a farmer. [6]

According to his 12 September 1918 World War I draft registration card, Davie was a 33-year-old farmer living in Grove Oak, born on 25 December 1884, and married to Effie Sibert. He was of medium height and build, with brown eyes and dark hair. [7]

In 1920, David, aged 35, and Effica[!], aged 34, lived in Graham with their children Vasco, aged 14; Bernard, aged 14; Ramell, aged 11; Dennis, aged nine; Teddie, aged two; and Charles, aged one. David was a farmer; the four oldest children went to school and were farm laborers. In 1930, David. M., aged 45, and Effie B., aged 44, lived with their children Vasco B., aged 24; Jessie[!] B., aged 23; Willie D., aged 18; David[!] R., aged 12; Charles C., aged 11; Opal M., aged eight; Wallace G., aged seven; and Jimmie R., aged three. David was a farmer; Vasco did odd jobs; Willie, David R. and Charles were farm laborers. In 1940, David, aged 55, and Eppie, aged 54, lived in Graham with their children Maxine, aged 18; Grady, aged 16; and Jimmie Ruth, aged 12. David was a farmer. David and Eppie had attended school through the seventh grade; Maxine and Grady had completed the first year of high school; and Jimmie had attended school through the seventh grade. [6]

In 1950, David, aged 65, and Eppie, aged 64, lived in Graham. David was unable to work. [6]

According to her obituary, Eppie was survived by five sons—Vasco of Chattanooga, Dennis of Albuquerque, Ted of Fort Pierce, Florida, Charles of New York, and Grady of Detroit—and three daughters—Mrs. C.S. Dotson of Centre, Mrs. J.A. Berry of Fyffe, and Mrs. Tommie Jones of Grove Oak. [4]

According to his obituary, David was survived by five sons—Vasco of Chattanooga, Capt. Dennis of Fort McClellan and Mentone, Ted of Fort Pierce, Florida, Charles of New York, and Grady of Van Dyke, Michigan—and three daughters—Mrs. C.S. Dotson of Centre, Mrs. J.A. Berry of Fort Pierce, and Mrs. Tom Jones of Fort Payne. [2]

Children of David and Eppie Sibert:

i. Vasco Bert Sibert was born on 27 May 1905 in Alabama. [5] He died on 16 August 1990. [5][8] He married first Molly Clements. Mollie, the daughter of William D. and Dolly (Lee) Clements, was born on 27 December 1904 in Talladega, Alabama. [5][9] She committed suicide on 30 August 1947, aged 42, in Hixon, Hamilton County, Tennessee. [5][9] She is buried in the Tenbroeck Baptist Church Cemetery. [5] Vasco married second Annie Ruth Millicant. [5] Ruth was born on 10 February 1927 and died on 8 September 2016. [5] Vasco and Ruth are buried in the Valley Head Cemetery in DeKalb County. [5]

Mollie's gravestone says: [5]

According to her death certificate, Mollie was a teacher. [9]

According to the census, in 1950, Vasco B., aged 45 and born in Alaska, and Ruth M., aged 23 and born in Alabama, lived with their [possibly living] daughter in Chattanooga. Vasco worked in a nylon stitch plant. [6]

According to his obituary , Vasco moved to Winter Park, Florida about 1958. He was the owner of a cloth store. He was survived by his wife and daughter. [8]

ii. James Bernard Sibert was born on 7 August 1904 or 1906 in Alabama. [5] He died on 28 November 1948. [5] He married Susie Stanfield. [5] Susie, the daughter of Henry and Mary Lou (Hutchinson) Stanfield, was born on 25 June 1905 in Langston, Alabama. [5][9] She died of breast cancer on 17 January 1948, aged 42, in Chattanooga. [5][9][10] Bernard and Susie are buried in the Tenbroeck Baptist Church Cemetery. [5] Bernard and James apparently left no children.

In 1940 Bernard, aged 33 and born in Alabama, and Susie, aged 34 and born in Alabama, lived in Graham, DeKalb County, Alabama. They had both graduated from high school. Bernard was a farmer. [6]

According to his 16 October 1940 World War II draft card, James Bernard Sibert was born on 7 August 1906 in DeKalb County. He was six feet tall with hazel eyes, black hair, and a ruddy complexion. He lived in Grove Oak. [11]

According to her obituary, Susie was survived by her husband Bernard Sibert, her brother John Stanfield and two sisters. [10]

iii. Martha Ramell Sibert was born on 15 April 1909 in Alabama. [5][12] She died on 11 August 1994. [5][12] She married first Ralph Lance Parsons shortly after 27 April 1929. Lance was born about 1901 in Texas. She married second Clyde Shannon Dotson. [5] He was born on 14 October 1894. [5] He died on 30 May 1962 in the veterans' hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama. [5][13] Martha and Clyde are buried in the Tenbroeck Baptist Church Cemetery. [5]

Mr. and Mrs. Dave Sibert of Grove Oak announced the engagement of their daughter Martha Rowell to R. Lance Parsons of Danville, Virginia on 27 April 1929. [14]

According to the census, in 1930, Ralph, aged 29 and born in Texas, and Ramell, aged 21 and born in Alabama, lived in Gadsden, Etowah County, with their one-month-old baby Martha J. Ralph was an electrician for a steel mill. [6]

According to his obituary, Clyde L.[!] Dotson's survivors included his wife, R.S. Dotson, and his stepdaughter, Mrs. Janet Thompson. [13]

Children of Ralph Lance Parsons and Martha Ramell Sibert:

• Martha Janet Parsons was born on 7 March 1930 in Grove Oak. [15] She died on 11 October 2002. [15] She married first Frank Marion Savage on 12 August 1951 in Cherokee County. [16] They divorced in September 1959 in Montgomery County. [17] Janet married second ___ Thompson. [15]
  
  It was announced that the wedding of Janet Parsons, daughter of Mrs. Clyde Dotson, to Frank Savage would take place on 12 August 1951. [18]

iv. Major Dennis William Sibert was born on 26 May 1912 in Grove Oak. [5][15][11][19] He died on 21 February 1991. [5][15][19] He married Helen Elizabeth Smith, the daughter of Raymond H. and Rhea (Lindsay) Smith, on 16 December 1943 in Marshall, Calhoun County, Michigan. [20] Helen, the daughter of Raymond H. and Rhea (Lindsay) Smith, was born about 1920 in Michigan. Helen, the widow of Major Dennis Sibert, died on 5 March 2013 in Palm Harbor, Florida. [5]

According to the census, in 1935 Dennis lived in Long Beach, California. In 1940, Dennis, aged 27, born in Alabama, and single, lived in New York City. He had completed one year of college. He worked as a guard for a bank. [6]

According to Dennis's World War II draft registration card, he lived in Brooklyn and worked for the Brooklyn Trust Company. He was five feet, ten and a half inches tall, with blue eyes, blond hair, and a light complexion. [11]

Dennis enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army on 9 September 1942 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He had completed one year of college and worked as a guard or watchman. [21]

According to Dennis's marriage certificate, Dennis William Sibert married Helen Elizabeth Smith on 16 December 1943 in Marshall. Neither of them had been married before. Dennis, the son of D.M. and Eppie (Wilson) Sibert, aged 32, was born in Grove Oak, Alabama. He was a resident of Oak Grove and and in the army. Helen, the daughter of Raymond H. and Rhea (Lindsay) Smith, aged 23, was born in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was a resident there and a bookkeeper. [22]

At the time of their marriage, Lieutenant Sibert was stationed at Fort Custer with the military police and Helen was a bookkeeper. [20]

"In 1946 [Dennis] twice ran a full page ad in The Numismatist announcing a new book on the silver dollars of China, to be co-authored by himself and H. Chang, a coin dealer in Shanghai. Another ad in Numismatist in 1948, placed by his wife, said that due to Sibert's ill health, the book plan had been canceled and advance payments had been refunded. I came across these advertisements some time ago, and put a card in my bibliography in case any other information turned up. Last night I discovered that I have the manuscript and many of the photos for that book. It came from the Howard F. Bowker library in the form of a binder, but with no title page or author shown." [23]

Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 14 November 1947; he was discharged on 31 December 1958. [19l]

In 1950, Dennis W., aged 37 and born in Alabama, and Helen E., aged 29 and born in Michigan, lived in Bernalillo County, New Mexico with their daughter. Dennis was in the armed forces. [6]

Captain Dennis W., aged 43, flew back from Frankfurt to New York on 10 March 1955 with his wife Helen and three daughters. [24]

According to her obituary, Helen was survived by three daughters. [25]

v. Ted Ralph Sibert was born on 14 August 1917 in DeKalb County. He died in October 1969 in Saint Lucie County, Florida. [26] He is buried in the Tenbroeck Baptist Church Cemetery. [5] He married Evolia Mae Bethune by 1940. Evolia was born about 1917 in Alabama. Evolia Margie Bryant, the daughter of O.B. and Naomi (Gilbert) Bethune, died on 21 June 1961, aged 44, in Fort Payne, Alabama. [1][27] Ted and Evolia Mae divorced in 1948 in Brevard County, Florida. [28] Ted married Dorothy M. ___ by 1950. Dorothy was born about 1918 in Oklahoma. They divorced in October 1963 in St. Lucie County. [28]

At the time of her death, Evolia was married to Riley Bryant. [1][27] She was survived by a son ___ Sibert. [27]

Curiously, Ted R. Sibert and Evolia B. Sibert are recorded as divorcing in December 1951 in DeKalb County. [17]

According to the census, in 1940, Ted, aged 22, and Evolia M., aged 23, lived in Graham with their six-month-old son. Ted was a farmer. [6]

According to his 16 October 1940 draft registration card, Ted Ralph Sibert was born on 14 August 1917 in DeKalb County. He was married to Marjie Evolia Sibert and lived in Fyffe. He was five feet, nine inches tall with blue eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion. [11]

According to a notice in the 16 December 1946 St. Lucie News Tribune, Florence Mae [Evolia Mae?] Sibert sued Ted David R. Sibert for divorce. He was ordered to appear in court on 16 January 1947. [30]

In 1950, Ted, aged 36, and Dorothy, aged 32 and born in Oklahoma, were living in St. Lucie County. They were tomato packers. [6]

vi. Charles Clarence Sibert was born on 27 November 1918 in Grove Oak. [5][11][15][26] He died on 8 November 1992 in Broward County, Florida. [5][15][26] He married Faith C. Kingsman by a license of 3 June 1942 in Queens. [29] Faith, the daughter of Arthur H. and Cornelia O. (Bourque) Kinsman, was born on 17 December 1920 in Fall River, Massachusetts. [5][15] She died on 1 July 2006. [5][15] Charles and Faith are interred together in Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens East in Hollywood, Broward County. [5]

According to his 23 June 1941 World War II draft registration card, Charles was living in Grove Oak. He was five feet, 11 inches tall with blue eyes, brown hair, and a ruddy complexion. He had been honorably discharged from the navy. [11]

Charles was engaged as a second mate on the Arizona on 27 February 1944. The ship arrived in New York from Curacao on 26 March 1944. [24] He was engaged as a second mate on the Pueblo on 12 December 1944. She ship arrived in New Orleans from Santiago de Cuba on 31 December 1944. [31]

According to the census, in 1950, Charles C., aged 31 and born in Alabama, and Faith C., aged 28 and born in Massachusetts, lived in Upper Darby, Delaware County, Pennsylvania with their daughter Cheryle D., aged six and born in New York. Charles's occupation was described as "night mate marine transportation" for an oil refinery. [6]

Children of Charles Sibert and Faith Kinsman:

• Cheryle D. Sibert was born on 12 January 1944 in Queens, New York. [32] She died on 6 May 2018. [32] She married Guy G. Masten in March 1968 in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey. [33] They divorced on 16 April 1985 in Broward County, Florida. [28]

vii. Opal Maxine Sibert was born on 23 February 1921 in Grove Oak. [5][15][26] She died on 4 July 1994, age 73, in St. Lucie County. [5][15][26][34] She married John Ansel Berry. [5] John was born on 9 November 1919 in Fyffe, Alabama. [5] He died on 27 September 1998. [5][35] Opal and John are buried in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Sumter County, Florida. [15]

John was a corporal in the U.S. Army in World War II. [5]

According to his 1 July 1941 World War II draft registration card, John was a student at the Anderson Airplane School. He was five feet, ten inches tall with blue eyes, black hair, and a ruddy complexion. He had no telephone. [11]

John enlisted in the army on 6 October 1942 at Fort McClellan. He had completed two years of high school and his civilian occupation was building aircraft. [21]

According to her obituary, Maxine's survivors included her husband, three daughters, her sisters, Jimmie Ruth Jones and Ramell Dotson, and her brother Grady Sibert. [34]

According to his obituary, John was a construction carpenter and a World War II vet. His survivors included his three daughters. [35]

According to the census, in 1950, in 1950 John A., aged 30 and born in Alabama, and Maxine, aged 29 and born in Alabama, lived in Graham with their two daughters. John was a farmer. [6]

viii. Wallace Grady Sibert was born on 23 November 1923 in Grove Oak. [5][15][11][19] He died on 20 April 2002. [5][15][19] He married Sarah L. Harris. [5] Sarah was born on 7 September 1923. [5] She died on 18 June 2013. [5] Wallace and Sarah are buried in the Tenbroeck Baptist Church Cemetery. [5]

According to his 30 June 1942 World War II draft registration card, Wallace was a farmer. He did not have a phone. He was five feet, ten and a half inches tall, with blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. [11]

Wallace enlisted in the U.S. Army as a private on 11 February 1943 at Fort McClellan. [19][21] He was discharged on 22 February 1945. [19] At the time of his enlistment, Wallace had graduated from high school and was a farm hand. [21].

According to the census, in 1950, Wallace G. and Sarah L, both aged 26 and born in Alabama, lived in Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County with their daughter. Wallace was the manager of a trailer park. [6]

ix. Jimmie Ruth Sibert was born on 1 September 1926. [5][12] She died on 2 May 2010. age 83. [5][12][36] She married Tommie Jones. [5] Tommie, the son of James C. and Ada Jones, was born on 5 July 1923 and died on 2 November 2015. [5] Jimmie and Tommie are buried in the Mountain View Memory Gardens in Fort Payne, DeKalb County, Alabama. [5]

Tommie served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. [5]

According to his 30 June 1942 World War II draft registration card, Tommie had blue eyes, black hair and a light complexion. He did not have a phone. [11]

According to the census, in 1950, Tommie, aged 26 and born in Alabama, and Jimmie R., aged 23 and born in Alabama, lived in Lydia, DeKalb County, Georgia with their daughter. Tommie was a farmer. [6]

Children of Tommie Jones and Jimmie Ruth Sibert:

• Charles Wayne Jones was born on 17 January 1954 and died on 14 March 2008. [5] He is buried in the Mountain View Memory Gardens.
