I-B-5. JULIA A. SIBERT (1858 – 1900), daughter of Henry Sibert³ (David², John David¹)

Julia A. Sibert was born on 9 July 1858. [1][2] She died on 14 September 1900, aged 42. [1][2] She married James Maburn Chaney on 21 May 1876 in Marshall County, Alabama. [1][2][3] J.M. was born on 20 February 1852 in Collinsville, DeKalb County, Alabama. [1][2] He died on 22 April 1924, aged 72, in Jackson County, Alabama. [2][4] Julia and James are buried int he Collinsville Cemeter. [2]

According to the census, in 1880, James M., aged 28, and Julia R., aged 22, lived in Beat 5, DeKalb County with Julia's mother Dorcus and a servant. James was a farmer. In 1900, Mayburne, born in February 1852, and Julia, born in July 1859[!], lived in Collinsville with their children, Henry, born in July 1881[!], Edna, born in October 1885[!], Ollie, born in July 1888, Jessie, born in December 1890[!], and Etoile, born in February 1895[!]. Mayburne and Julia had been married 20 years. Julia had had seven children, and six were living. Everyone in the household had been born in Alabama. Mayburne was a farmer, and Henry, Edna, Ollie, and Jessie went to schoool. [5]

In 1910 James H., aged 58 and a widower, was living in Section, Jackson County with his children, John H., aged 28 and a widower; Edna P., aged 26; Ollie C., aged 22; Jessie V., aged 20; and Etoile, aged 16. His granddaughter Julia M. Strawn, aged nine and born in Alabama, also lived with him. James was a farmer, John was an agent for [illegible], and Jessie was a public school teacher. In 1920 James M., aged 56, lived with his children Edna P., aged 34, and Maburn E., aged 24, in Section. James was a farmer and Maburn was a farm laborer. [5]

Children of J.M. Chaney and Julia A. Sibert:

I-B-5-a. John Henry Chaney was born on 24 July 1880 in Collinsville. [2] He died on 7 February 1959, aged 78, in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. [2][6] He is buried in the Collinsville Cemetery. [2] He had an unknown first wife who died by 1910. He married second, as her second husband, Regina (Graves) Swalley on 29 June 1919 in Birmingham. [7] Regina, the daughter of John Henry and Emma Jackson (Hamill) Graves, was born on 13 July 1886 in Gadsden. [2] She died on 7 February 1955 in Birmingham and is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. [2] She married first Edwin E. Swalley. [2]

John Henry was tall and slender with brown eyes and hair. His November 1918 World War I draft registration card says, "Left leg off 4 inches below knee." [8]

According to the census, in 1930, John H., aged 39, and Regina, aged 33, lived in Birmingham with John's three stepchildren and his mother-in-law. John was a crew dispatcher for a railroad. In 1940 John H., aged 59, and Regina, aged 53, lived in Birmingham with their daughter Emma Joyce, aged 18, and John's stepson and his family. John was a machinist. He had completed one year of high school. [5]

According to his obituary, John was survived by two stepsons; a daughter, Mrs. Joyce C. Wicker of Miami; a brother, "E. Toyle" Chaney of Rainesville; and two sisters, Edna Chaney of Rainesville and Ollie Chaney of Scottsboro. [6]

Children:

• Emma Joyce Chaney, the daughter of John Henry and Regina (Graves) Chaney, was born on 30 January 1922 in Birmingham. [7] She married first George Bryant Poole on 6 September 1942 in Jefferson County. [7] George, the son of Ben Lloyd and Nettie (Matthews) Poole, was born on 23 April 1919 in Dallas. They divorced by 1950. She married second ___ Wicker.
  
  In 1950, George B., aged 30, born in Texas, and divorced, was living with cousins in Texas and working as a laboror for an asphalt plant. [5]

I-B-5-b. Daisy Ruth Chaney was born on 17 April 1882 in Alabama. [2] She died on 25 June 1902, agde 20, and is buried in the Smith's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Whitesboro, Etowah County. [2] She married John Thomas Strawn on 13 May 1900 in DeKalb county. [2][9] John, the son of William and Sarah (Pruitt) Strawn, was born about 1874. [10][2] He died on 23 September 1970, aged 95. [2] He married second Alice Hester Unknown. [2]

Children:

• Julia M. Strawn was born about 1901 in Alabama.

I-B-5-c. Edna Pearl Chaney was born on 10 October 1884 in Alabama. She died on 7 April 1966, aged 81. [2] She is buried in the Collinsville Cemetery. [2]

In 1950, Edna P., aged 65 and never married, lived with her sister Olive and her brother Maburn in Scottsboro. [5]

I-B-5-d. Olive Clyde Chaney was born in July 1886 or 1888 in Alabama. [2] She died on 17 July 1962, aged 76, in Scottsboro, Jackson County, Alabama. [2][11] Olive Clyde Chaney, aged 24, married Robert Franklin Gamble, aged 23, on 4 February 1912 in Section, Jackson county. [7] They later divorced. Robert, the son of Robert Frank Gamble and Tennesse Moore, was born on 27 September 1888. [2][12] He died on 5 November 1972, aged 84, and is buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro. [2][12]

Robert was a soldier in World War I. He enlisted on 30 November 1917 and was a private first class in Company 7 of the 20th Engineers. [12]

According to the census, in 1920, Robert, aged 32 and born in Tennessee, and Olive C., aged 32 and born in Alabama, lived with their daughters, Bernie L., aged seven and born in Alabama, and Erma R., aged four and born in Alabama, in Section. Robert was a farmer. [5]

Olive and Robert apparently divorced between about 1926 and 1930. In 1930, Olive, aged 43 and a widow[!], lived in Scotsdale with her daughter Bernie, aged 17. Olive and Bernie were padders in a rug factory. Robert, aged 41 and divorced, lived in Section with his widowed father, "Tennie," and his children Erma R., aged 15, Arthur R., aged nine, Maburn E., aged six, and Etoile L., aged three.

In 1940, Olive, aged 52 and divorced, lived in Scottsboro with her sons Maburn, aged six[!], and Etoile, aged five[!]. Olive was a seamstress in a rug mill. [5]

In 1950, Olive C., aged 62 and divorced, lived with her sister Edna P. and her brother Maburn E., in Scotsboro. [5]

According to her obituary, Olive was survived by two sons, Maborn of Worcester and Etoile of Germany; two daughters, Mrs. James E. Cline of Atlanta and Mrs. M.B. Swearengin of Scottsdale; a brother, Etoile; and a sister, Mrs. Edna Chaney. [11]

Children:

• Bernie Lee Gamble was born on 20 December 1912 and died on 11 September 2003, aged 90. [2] She married James Edward Cline. [2] He was born on 7 October 1907 and died on 2 October 1964. [2] Berinie and James are buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. [2]
  
  
  • Margaret Cline was born on 8 October 1942 and died on 11 September 2003, aged 90. [2] She married Kenneth Ray Garrell. [2] He was born on 24 December 1936 and died on 26 August 2021, aged 84. [2] Margaret and Kenneth are buried in the Pine Hill Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, Jackson County. [2]
    
    
• Erma Ruth Gamble was born on 2 April 1914 and died on 23 May 1984, aged 70. [2] She married Marion B. Swearengin. [2] He was born on 10 September 1912 and died on 3 August 1994, aged 81. [2] Ruth and Marion are buried in the Pleasant Grove Holiness Church Cemetery in Woodville, Jackson County. [2]
  
  
• Robert Arthur Gamble was born on 10 August 1920 and died in an automobile accident on 22 February 1959, aged 38. [2] He married, as her second husband, Sarah Kathleen Holland. [2] She was born on 20 September 1916 and died on 19 May 2011, aged 94. [2] She married first Claude Sims. [2] He was born in 1917 and died in an automobile accident in 1939. [2] Robert, Sarah, and Claude are buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. [2]
  
  
  • Sarah Lee Gamble was born on 28 July 1955 and died on 27 August 2017, aged 62. [2] She is buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. [2] She married [possibly living].
    
    
• Maborn Eugene Gamble was born on 24 June 1923 and He died on 11 October 1993, aged 70. [2] He married Carol A. Granger. [2] She was born in 1942 and died on 27 Febrary 2021. [2] She is buried in the Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [2]
  
  
• Etoile L. Gamble was born about 1927 in Alabama. He died about 17 September 1962, while serving as a sergeant in Manheim, Germany. [13] He left a wife and three children. [13]

I-B-5-e. Jessie Van Chaney was born on 15 December 1889.[2] She died on 18 May 1944, age 54, in Section, Jackson county. [2][14] She is buried in the Collinsville Cemetery. [2][14] She married Walter Lloyd Green, the son of T.H. and Willie (Poole) Green. [2][14] He was born on 28 January 1885 and died on 25 February 1962 in Scottsboro. [2] He is buried in the Section United Methodist Church Cemetery. [2] He married seond Xenophen Britt. [2]

In 1930, Walter L., aged 44, and Jessie V., aged 40, lived in Section with their sons Trewhitt, aged 15 and born in Alabama and T.M., aged 11, and born in Alabama. Walter was a mail carrier. [5]

Children:

• Trewhitt Horace Green was born on 15 November 1914 in Alabama. [2] He died on 15 January 1995, aged 80. [2] He married Virginia Maxine Rudder, the daughter of Samuel Price and Mae Rudder, on 17 August 1940 in Section. [15] She was born on 25 May 1916 and died on 27 January 1996, aged 79. [2] Walter Roy Green, the only child of Trewhitt and Virginia, was born on 2 July 1942 and died in an accident on 6 August 1956, age 14. [2] Trewhitt, Virginia, and their son, are buried in the Section United Methodist Church Cemetery. [2]
  
  
• T.M. Green was born about 1919 in Alabama.

I-B-5-f. Maburn Etoile Chaney was born on 6 February 1894 in Collinsville. [2][8] He died on 11 August 1975, aged 81, and is buried in the Collinsville Cemetery. [2]

Maburn was discribed as tall and slender with gray eyes and black hair. On his 15 June 1917 World War I draft registration card, he said he had weak eyes. [8]

In 1950 Maburn W., aged 56 and never married, lived with his sisters Olive C. and Edna P. in Scottsboro. None of them worked. [5]

I-B-5-g. Dewey Chaney was born on 11 March 1898. He died on 20 July 1898, aged four months, and is buried in the Collinsville Cemetery. [2]
