II-D-1. GEORGE THOMAS SIBERT (1876 – 1934), son of John Henry Sibert3 (George2, John David1)
George Thomas Sibert was born on 4 March 1867 in South Carolina. He died on 6 February 1934 in Greenwood, Greenwood County, South Carolina. He married Mary Elizabeth McCrary about 1890 in Abbeville, South Carolina. [1] She was born on 17 November 1870 in South Carolina. She died on 4 February 1948 at the home of her son John Henry in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. [2][3]
According to her obituary, Elizabeth was the daughter of James Harvey and Selma Theresa (Rich) McCrary. She left six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. [3]
George and Mary are buried together in the Cedar Springs A.R.P. Church Cemetery in Greenwood County. Their gravestone says: [2]

According to the census, on 14 June 1900, George, born in March 1867, and Mary E., born in November 1870, lived in Bradley, Greenwood County with their children James H., born in August 1891; George T., born in October 1893; and "Luler," born in October 1899. They had been married nine years. Everyone in the household was born in South Carolina. George was a farmer on a rented farm. [4]
On 3 May 1910, George T., aged 43, and Mary E., aged 39, lived in Bradley with their children James H., aged 18; George T., aged 16; and Lilly B., aged ten. They had had three children—all living. George farmed a rented farm. James and George, Jr. were farm laborers. The children attended school. [4]
In 1930, George T., aged 63, and Mary E., aged 59, lived in their own house on Abney Street in Greenwood, Greenwood County. George was a "grading" contractor. [4]
According to his death certificate, G. Thos. Sibert, the son of John H. and Laura (Lyon) Sibert, was born on 4 March 1867. He died of atherosclerosis on 6 February 1934, age 66, in Greenwood, Greenwood County. He was a contractor. The informant was Mrs. Mary Sibert. [5] According to his obituary, he left behind a widow, the former Mary Elizabeth McCreary; a son, John H. of Augusta; and six grandchildren. [6]

II-D-1-a. James Henry Sibert was born on 10 August 1891 in South Carolina. He died on 13 December 1962, aged 71, in Richmond County, Georgia. [7] He married Eleanor Coleman. She was born on 2 January 1895 and died on 23 June 1978 in Richmond County, Georgia. [7] James and Eleanor are buried together in the Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta, Richmond County. Their gravestone says: [2]

According to the census, in 1920, James, aged 28 and born in South Carolina, and Eleanor, aged 24 and born in South Carolina, lived in a rented house on Chaffee Avenue in Augusta with their son James, Jr., aged ten months and born in Georgia. James was a salesman. [4]
On 2 April 1930, James H., aged 38, and Eleanor C., aged 35, lived in a rented house on Fenwick Street in Augusta with a nurse (servant) and their children James H., Jr., aged 11; E. Ruth, aged nine; Grace E., aged four; and Wallace, aged two. All the children were born in Georgia. James was a car operator for the Georgia Power Company. [4]
On 6 April 1940, James H., aged 48, and Eleanor, aged 41, lived in a rented house at 614 Ellis Street in Augusta with their children James H., Jr., aged 21; Grace, aged 14; Thomas, aged 12; Mary A., aged nine and born in Georgia; Laura S., aged six and born in Georgia; and a lodger. James, who had completed one year of high school, was a bus driver for Georgia Power. [4]
On 8 April 1950, James H., aged 58, and Eleanor C., aged 55, lived on Walker Street in Augusta with their daughter Shirley, aged 16; their daughter Grace Barber, aged 24; Grace's two [possibly living] children; and three lodgers. James was a bus operator for Georgia Power. [4]
Children of James Henry Sibert and Eleanor Coleman:
i. James Henry Sibert, Jr. was born on 23 February 1919 in Augusta. [2][8] He died on 28 December 1973, aged 54. [2] He married Eunice Toole. [2] She was born on 13 February 1923 and died on 10 May 2012. [2] James and Eunice are buried together in the Westover Memorial Park in Augusta. [2]
On 6 April 1940, James lived with his parents in Augusta. He was an assistant mechanic for the Otis Elevator company. He had completed three years of high school. [4] On 16 October 1940, James Henry Sibert, Jr. lived with his father at 614 Ellis Street in Augusta and worked for Otis. [8]
ii. E. Ruth Sibert was born about 1920 in Georgia. She died on 14 June 2001. [2] She married Dennis L. Sumner. He was born in 1918 and died in 1990. [2] Dennis and Ruth are buried in the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta. [2]
Children of Dennis L. Sumner and E. Ruth Sibert:
i. Helen Sumner was born on 30 July 1938 and died on 28 February 2020. [2] She is buried in the Westover Memorial Park in Augusta. She married Gene Paul Mann. [2] He was born on 30 July 1938 and died on 28 February 2020. He is buried in the Pineview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in North Augusta, Aiken County, South Carolina. [2]
Children of Gene Paul Mann and Helen Sumner:
- Gene Neal Mann was born on 28 October 1958 and died on 1 January 2015. [2] He is buried in the Westover Memorial Park. [2]
- Angela Marie Mann was born on 28 February 1962 and died on 3 May 2000. [2] She married Calvin Leroy Patton. [2] She is buried in the Hillcrest Memorial Park. [2] He was born on 1 January 1947 and died on 16 October 2017. [2]
iii. Grace E. Sibert was born about 1925 in Georgia. She married Gene T. Barber on 15 July 1942 in (then) Elizabeth City County, Virginia. He was born about 1920. He died on 15 June 1980, aged 60. [9]
According to her marriage certificate, Grace E., aged 17, married Gene T. Barber, aged 23, on 15 July 1942 in (then) Elizabeth City. She was the daughter of J.H. and Ella (Coleman) Sibert; he was the son of J.T. and Elizabeth Barber. [10]
iv. Thomas Wallace Sibert was born on 24 September 1927 in Augusta. [11][12] He died on 19 September 1980. [2][11][12] He is buried in the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta. [2][12] He married Jeannette ___. [2] She was born on 12 August 1931. [2]
According to his social security records, Thomas Wallace was the son of James H. and Eleanor (Coleman) Sibert. [11]
Thomas was a coxswain in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted on 27 December 1945 and was discharged on 29 October 1947. [12]
v. Mary Alice Sibert was born on 6 November 1930 in Georgia and died on 7 November 2014. [2] She married Wesley Arthur Williamson. [2] He was born on 15 January 1924 and died on 24 April 1983. [2] Mary Alice and Wesley are buried in the Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta. [2]
Children of Wesley Arthur Williamson and Mary Alice Sibert:
- Marie Williamson was born on 20 November 1948 in Augusta. [2][13] She died on 24 October 2011, aged 62, in Harlem, Columbia County, Georgia. [2][13] She married Master Sergeant Robert S. Hendrick. [2][13] He was born on 14 December 1942 and died on 23 June 2018. [2] Marie and Robert are buried in the Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Grovetown, Columbia County. [2]
Robert served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. [2]
vi. Laura Shirley Sibert was born on 5 August 1933. She died on 5 June 2003. Laura is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery. Her gravestone says: [2]

II-D-1-b. George Thomas Sibert was born on 24 October 1893 in Abbeville county, South Carolina. He died on 5 March 1925. He is buried in the Cedar Springs A.R.P. Church Cemetery. His gravestone says: [2]
George / Thomas Jr. / Son of / Mr. and Mrs. / G.T. Sibert / Oct. 24, 1893 / Mar. 5, 1925 / Co. D 118 Inf / 30 Div 59 Brig. / Our darling.
According to his death certificate, George T., the son of George Thomas and Mary McCrary, was born on 24 October 1893. He died of pulmonary tuberculosis on 5 March 1925, age 31 in Verdery, Greenwood County. He was single and a R.R. operator. The informant was his father. [5]
According to his 5 June 1917 World War I draft registration card, George Thomas of Verdery was born on 24 October 1893 in Abbeville County. He was a farm laborer and worked for his father near Bradley. He was single. He claimed an exemption for a physical disability—he had pellagra. [14] He was ordered to report to Camp Jackson for military duty by 18 September 1917. [15]
George served several months in Belgium in the 118th Infantry, 30th Division, 59th Brigade. He was wounded or gassed on 17 October 1918 [when the 118th Infantry struggled to reach the Selle]. [16][17] He is on a 21 December 1918 list of sick and wounded servicemen transported back to the United States on the Baltic. [16][18] He was discharged on 10 March 1919, but was ill for several months and was treated at the Camp Sevier Hospital in South Carolina. [16][17]
George was never entirely well after the war, but was able to work as a telegraph operator in Buena Vista, Georgia for some time. [16]
According to an obituary, George was survived by his parents and brother James H. of Augusta. [16]
II-D-1-c. Lillie Beatrice Sibert was born on 19 October 1898 or (more likely) 1899 in South Carolina. She died on 9 April 1923 in Verdery, Greenwood County. She is buried in the Cedar Springs A.R.P. Church Cemetery. Her gravestone says: [2]

When the Bradley School closed for the summer on 23 May 1908, the ladies of the A.R.P. church served ice cram at the school and Beatrice was one of the students who took part in presentations. [19]
According to her obituary, Lillie died at home after an illness of several months. She was survived by her parents, her brother James H. of Augusta, and her brother George T., Jr. of Verdery. [20] According to her death certificate, Lillie Beatrice, the daughter of George Thomas and Mary E. McCrary (Sibert), was born on 19 October 1899. She died of pellagra on 9 April 1923, age 23, in Verdery. Pellagra, caused by the lack of the vitamin niacin and now associated with sub-Saharan Africa, was once endemic in the American South. The informant was her father. [5]
