II-J. MARTHA "Mattie" LAVINIA SIBERT (1850 – 1934), daughter of George Sibert2 (John David1)
Martha Lavinia Sibert was born on 23 August 1850 in South Carolina. [1][2] She died on 6 November 1934, age 84, in Greenwood County, South Carolina. [1][2] Mattie of Abbeville District married James Harrison Mayson of Edgefield on 9 February 1869. [3] James was born on 3 September 1832 in South Carolina. [1] He died on 28 July 1900, age 67, in South Carolina. [1] James and Martha are buried together in the Mount Vernon Methodist Cemetery in McCormick County. [1]
Mattie's death certificate says she is the daughter of George Sibert and Adeline "Alaster." [2]
James's grave has a confederate marker. [1] He was a private in Co. K of the Seventh South Carolina Infantry. [4]
According to the census, in 1870, James, aged 37, and Martha, aged 24, lived in Hibler, Edgefield County, South Carolina. James was a farmer with real estate worth 600 dollars and a personal estate of 215 dollars. In 1880, James, aged 48, and Martha L., aged 30, lived in Hibler with their children Addie S., aged eight; George R., aged four; and Isabelle C., aged one. James was a farmer. In 1900, James H., born in September 1832, and Martha L., born in August 1853[!], lived in Hibler with their children, Rupurt, born in September 1876; Corra, born in June 1880; Jasper, born in May 1882; and Janie, born in October 1886. James and Martha had been married 32 years; Martha had had ten children, and five were living. James and Rupurt were farmers, Corra was a dress maker, and Jasper was a farm laborer. [5]
In 1910, Mattie was a 60-year-old widow. She lived in Callison, Greenwood County with her daughter Susan's family. In 1920, she lived with Susan's family in East Greenwood, McCormick County. [5]
Children of James Mayson and Martha Lavinia Sibert:
II-J-1. Adaline Susan Mayson was born on 1 March 1873 in Edgefield County. [1][2][6] She died of a carcinoma of the gall bladder on 22 March 1951, age 78, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Bert Langley in Greenwood. [1][2][6] She married Robert Thomas Mayson on 1 November 1891. [1] Robert was the son of John C. and Eliza (Freeman) Mayson. [2] He was born on 8 November 1869 in McCormick County and died on 13 December 1958, age 89. [1] Susan and Robert are buried in the Mount Vernon Methodist Church Cemetery.
According to the census, in 1910, Robert T., aged 40, and Susan A., aged 37, lived in Callison with their children Julia L., aged 17; Lilly A., aged 12; and Alma F., aged two. Susan's mother, Mattie, also lived with them. Robert was a farmer. Susan had had six children, and three were living. In 1920 Robert T., aged 50, and Susan A., aged 49, lived in East Greenwood with their children, Alma, aged 11, and Rubie L, aged nine, and Susan's mother, Mattie L. In 1930, Tom, aged 60, and Susan, aged 57, lived in Greenwood with their children Alma, aged 22, and Ruby, aged 20. Tom was a farmer. [5]
According to her obituary, Susan A. was the daughter of James Harrison and Mattie (Sibert) Mayson. She was survived by her husband; her sister, Mrs. I.C. Harrison; her brothers, G.R. and J.J. Mason; and her daughters Mrs. F.C. Reames, Mrs. Langley, and Mrs. Leon Murphy. [6]

II-J-2. George Rupert Mayson was born in September 1875 in South Carolina. [1][2] He died on 18 February 1958, age 82, in McCormick. [1][2] He married Leila Mae Flinn. [1][2] Leila was the daughter of Henry Clay and Caroline (Rush) Flinn. [2] She was born on 30 April 1885 and died on 27 June 1963, age 78. [1][2] George and Leila are buried in the Bold Spring Baptist Church Cemetery in Callison. [1]
George's death certificate says he was the son of Col. James Harrison and Mattie (Sibert) Mayson. [2] There does not seem to be any evidence that James was a colonel.
Children:
II-J-3. Isabell Cora Mayson was born about 1879 in South Carolina. [3] She died after 23 March 1951. She married ___ Harrison.
II-J-4. Jasper James Mayson was born on 25 June 1880 in Edgeworth County. [1][2][8] He died on 14 January 1970, aged 89, in Greenwood. [1][2][8] He married Julia Lillian Reames. [1][2][8] She was born on 19 January 1887 and died on 15 October 1975, age 88. [1] Jasper and Julia are buried in the Mount Vernon Methodist Church Cemetery. [1]
Jasper's birth certificate and obituary say he was the son of James Harrison and Mattie (Sibert) Mayson. [2][8]
Jasper was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1928 to 1932. [8]
According to the census, in 1930, Jasper, aged 49, and Julia L., aged 43, lived in Hibler with their children, Addie R., aged 20; William E., aged 18; Emmie L., aged 16; James M., aged 14; Joseph J., aged ten; and Mary J., aged seven. Jasper was a farmer; the four oldest children were farm laborers. [5]
Jasper's obituary says he was survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia Reames Mayson; his three daughters, Mrs. W.M. (Ruth) Harper, Mrs. W.C. (Emmie) Jaymes, and Mrs. Holley (Mary) Whatley; his son James Mayson, 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. [8]

II-J-5. Janie Mayson was born on 29 August 1883 in Edgefield County. [2] She died on 1 September 1962 in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina, where she had lived for 35 years. [2] She married Irvin Charles Harrison. [2] He was born on 27 March 1885 and died on 25 November 1975, age 90. [1] Janie and Irvin are interred in the Elmwood Memorial Gardens in Columbia. [1]
Janie's death certificate says she was the daughter of James H. and Mattie (Siebert) Mayson. [2]
