II-D. JOHN HENRY SIBERT (1836 – 1917), son of George Sibert2 (John David1)
John Henry Sibert was born on 14 August 1836 in Abbeville County, South Carolina. [1][2] He died of "old age" on 14 July 1917, age 79, in Bradley, Greenwood County, South Carolina. [1][2][3] He married Laura A. Lyon on 8 May 1866. [1] Laura was probably the sister of John's brother Isaac's wife Sarah Lyon. She was born on 27 December 1838 in Troy, Greenwood County. [1, 8 May][2] She died on 14 March 1888 in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. [1][2] John and Laura are buried together in the Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery in Troy. [2]
John's death certificate says he was the son of George Sibert and "Adline Allister." [3]
John was described as 5'9" tall with a dark complexion and grey eyes. [4]
John, age 24, enlisted on 15 April 1861 from Abbeville as a private in Captain P. H. Bradley's Company C, Seventh South Carolina Infantry for a term of twelve months. He shows up on the company's muster roles through January / February 1862. On 24 April 1862 he was admitted as patient to the Chimborazo Hospital No. 1 in Richmond and left without permission. He was discharged on 31 May 1862 as he was transferring to a company of cavalry. On 10 August 1863 he was paid as a soldier in Company G, Second South Carolina Cavalary. [4]
According to the census, in 1880, John H., aged 43, and Laura A., aged 41, lived in Whitehall, Abbeville County with their children George T., aged 13; James I., aged 11; Mattie L., aged nine; Margaret, aged seven; John H., aged five; Nancy L., aged two; and Leonard M, aged two. John was a farmer and George and James worked on the farm. [5]
In 1900 John, born in August 1836, lived with his children Mattie, born in October 1875; Nannie L. and Maxwell, born in September 1879; and Sadie, born in September 1886. John was a widowed farmer; Maxwell and Sadie were farm workers; Sadie was illiterate; the entire family was born in South Carolina. [5]
In 1910 John H., aged 71, lived with his children Mattie, aged 36; Nannie L., aged 27; L. Max, aged 27; and Sarah, aged 21. John was a widower and the children were all single. John was a farmer and the three eldest children were farm workers; Sarah was illiterate. [5]

II-D-1. George Thomas Sibert was born on 4 March 1867 in South Carolina. He died on 6 February 1934 in Greenwood, South Carolina. He married Mary Elizabeth McCrary.
II-D-2. James Isaac Sibert was born on 11 October 1868 in South Carolina. He died on 22 August 1902. He married first Emma Bracknell. He married second Lora Babb.
II-D-3. Mattie L. Sibert was born on 27 September 1870 in Bradley, South Carolina. [1][6] She died of heart disease on 16 September 1931, age 61, in Augusta and is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery. She was unmarried. [6]
Mattie's death certificate says she was the daughter of J.H. Sibert, born in Bradley, and Laurie Lyons, born in Troy. She had lived in Augusta for 20 years. [6]
II-D-4. Margaret ("Maggie Eula") Sibert was born on 31 July 1873 in Greenwood, South Carolina. [1][2][7] She died on 7 March 1953, age 83, of pneumonia following a respiratory infection. [7] She married Lucius Cuthburt Stinebeck. [1][2][7] He was born on 4 October 1861 and died on 10 February 1943. [2] Margaret and Lucius are buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina. [2]
Margaret's death certificate says she was the daughter of John Henry and Laura A. Sibert; she was the widow of L.C. Stinebeck. The informant was Mrs. Margaret Roberts. [7]
Children:
II-D-5. John Walter Sibert was born on 4 June 1876 in South Carolina. He died on 14 or 15 August 1946, in Richmond County, Georgia. He married Ethel N. Armstrong.
II-D-6. Nancy Lou ("Nannie") Sibert (twin) was born on 24 September 1879 in Abbeville County, South Carolina. [1][6] She died of pneumonia from influenza on 7 November 1930, age 51, in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia and is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta. She was unmarried. [6]
Nannie's death certificate says she was the daughter of J.H. Sibert and Laura Lyons. She had lived for 19 years in Augusta before her death. [6]
II-D-7. Leonard Maxwell Sibert (twin) was born on 24 September 1879. [1] He died on 4 August 1952, age 73, in Richmond County, Georgia and is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery. [2][8]
According to his World War I draft card, on 12 September 1918, Leonard lived in Augusta and was a drayman working for Sibert & Robinson. He said he was born on 24 September 1880 nand his nearest relative was his sister Mattie. He was described as of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair. [10]
According to the census, in 1920, L. Maxwell, was in the trucking business and was living in Augusta with his sisters Mattie, Nannie Lou and Sarah. Their given ages are all incorrect. [5]
According to the census, in 1950 Maxwell, aged 71, lived in Augusta with a boarder. He had never married. [5]
II-D-8. Sarah Sibert was born on 15 September 1882. [1] She died on 13 August 1945, age 62, and is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery. [12]
