Ancestry of Samuel Morse

Robert Morse died between 5 October 1551, when he made his will, and 15 September 1552, when it was proved. [3] He married Agnes ___. [3] She was buried on 17 January 1578/9, age 80, in Stoke-by-Nayland, Suffolk. [3]

Robert was a husbandman of Stoke-by-Nayland. [3]

Agnes made her nuncupative will on 13 January 1578/9. [3]

Children of Robert Morse and Agnes ___:

i. Thomas Morse was born before 1520. [3]

ii. John Morse the Elder was born about 1520. He was buried on 25 September 1577, age 57, in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3] He married Katherine ___. [3] She was buried on 26 August 1594 in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3] John was a yeoman of Stoke-by-Nayland. [3]

iii. Richard Morse was buried on 8 August 1614 in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3] He married Margery Wood on 8 August 1614 in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3] She was buried on 26 February 1609/10 in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3]

iv. John Morse the Younger was buried on 11 May 1621, age 88, in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3]

v. Alice Morse married the widower Robert Elsinge on 12 September 1570 in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3]

vi. Joan Morse was living on 5 October 1551. [3]

vii. Mary Morse was living on 13 January 1578/9. [3]

viii. Katherine Morse was living on 5 October 1551. [3]

Thomas Morse was born before 1520. [3] He was buried on 17 February 1566/7. [3] He married Agnes ___. [3] She was buried on 5 April 1574 in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3] Thomas was a laborer of Stoke-by-Nayland. [3]

iii. Richard Morse was born about 1540 and was buried on 30 June 1603 in Dedham. [3] He had an unknown first wife and married second Margery Symesone. [3]

vii. Thomas Morse the Younger was baptized on 14 September 1567 in Stoke-by-Nayland. [3]

Thomas Morse was named in his grandfather Robert Morse's will of 5 October 1511. [3] He is probably Thomas the Elder, son of Thomas Morse. [3] Reverend Thomas Morse died between 10 November 1596, when he wrote his will, and 10 March 1596/7, when his successor at Foxearth was presented. [2] He married first Margaret King on 26 may 1573 in Boxted, Essex. [2] She was buried on 28 July 1585 in Hinderclay, Suffolk. [2] He married second Margery Boggas on 24 November 1585 in Boxted. [2]

Thomas Morse was presented to the vicarage of Boxted in 1733. He held this position until 1578, when he resigned. However, he continued to live their until 1583. On 14 July of that year he was inducted as rector of of Hinderclay in northern Suffolk, near Redgrave. From 1594 until his death, he was rector of Foxearth, Essex. [2]

i. Reverend John Morse was baptized on 20 February 1574/5 in Boxted. [2][3] He died in January 1647/48. [2]

ii. Samuel Morse was baptized on 12 June 1576 in Boxted.

iii. Sarah Morse was baptized on 11 june 1578 in Boxted. [3]

iv. Daniel Morse was baptized on 29 June 1580 in Boxted. [3] He probably died young. [2]

v. Daniel Morse was baptized on 2 May 1583 in Boxted. [3]

Children of Thomas Morse and Margery Boggas:

vi. Joseph Morse married Anne Jasper, the sister of Joseph's half-brother Samuel's wife, on 29 October 1605. [2] Anne was baptized on 28 September 1577 in Redgrave. [2]

vii. Jeremiah Morse was baptized on 11 August 1588 in Hinderclay. [3] He was buried on 14 July 1663 in Dedham, Essex. [3] He married Abigail ___. [3] Jeremiah was a clothworker of Dedham. [3]

viii. James Morse was baptized on 10 November 1590 in Hinderclay. He was buried on 5 September 1638 in Barham. [3]

ix. Nathaniel Morse was baptized on 13 March 1592/3 in Hinderclay. [3]

x. Philip Morse was baptized on 14 March 15956 in Boxted. [3]

Samuel Morse was probably the son of Reverend Thomas Morse of Foxearth, Essex and his wife Margaret King. [1][2] He was baptized on 12 June 1576 in Boxted, Essex. [1][2] He died on 5 December 1654 in Medfield. [1][2] He married Elizabeth Jasper on 29 June 1602 in Redgrave, Suffolk. [1][2]

Elizabeth Jasper was the daughter of Lancelot Jasper. [1] She was baptized on 30 January 1579/80. [1] She died on 20 June 1655 in Medfield. [2]

In his will of 17 February 1616/7, Lancelot Jasper made bequests to his daughters Annes Morse and Elizabeth Morse. [2]

Samuel, a 50-year-old husbandman, his wife Elizabeth, age 50, Joseph age 20, and Elizabeth Daniel, age two, are on a 15 April 1635 list of passengers leaving for New England on the Increase. [2] Samuel first settled in Watertown, where his son Daniel had already settled. [2]

Samuel and his sons Daniel and Joseph signed the covenant to establish the town of Dedham in 1636. [2]

Samuel was admitted to the church in Dedham (referred to as Thomas) on 14 June 1640 and he was admitted a freeman on 8 October 1640. [1]

Samuel was treasurer of Dedham in 1636. He was selectman on 20 December 1640 and 28 May 1638. He was assessor for the meetinghouse rate on 30 May 1638. He was a fenceviewer on 12 January 1640/1 and 1 March 1641/2 and highway supervisor on 1 January 1646/7. [1]

Samuel spent his last days in Medfield, the home of his daughter Mary Bullen. [2]

Samuel made his will on 2 December 1654. He left his entire estate to Elizabeth for life. After her death, it was to be divided among his children John Morse, Daniel Morse, and Mary Bullin and Ann [Hannah] Morse, the widow of his son Joseph. When her children came of age, Ann was to distribute her share to them. [2] Inventory on his Samuel's estate was taken on 5 December 1654 and presented on 30 January 1654/5. It amounted to 124 pounds and seven shillings. [2]

ii. Samuel Morse was baptised on 1 May 1603 in Redgrave. He was buried on 11 May 1626 in Burgate, Suffolk. [1]

iii. Elizabeth Morse was baptized on 6 March 1605/6 in Redgrave. She died on 2 October 1643 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. [2] She married Robert Daniel by about 1631. [1][2] He died on 6 July 1655 in Cambridge. [2]

Elizabeth and Daniel went to New England, leaving their young daughter Elizabeth with Elizabeth's parents. [2]

iv. John Morse was baptised on 28 February 1607/8 in Redgrave. He died on 26 May 1657, probably in Boston. [2] He married Annis Chickering. [3]

John went to New England. [2] He was a tailor of Dedham and Boston. [2] He was a freeman on 13 May 1640. [2]

v. Daniel Morse was born say 1610. [1] He died on 5 June 1688. [2] He married Lydia, the daughter of Anthony Fisher, by 1639. [1] She died on 29 January 1690/1, age 70, in Sherborn. [3]

Daniel came to Watertown before his father and was admitted a freeman on 6 May 1635. [2] He moved to Dedham, then to Medfield and Sherborn. [2]

vi. Joseph Morse was baptized on 2 May 1613 in Redgrave. He died on 20 June 1654, probably in Dorchester. He married Hannah Phillips.

vii. Sarah Morse was baptized on 25 August 1616 in Burgate. There is no further record of her. [1]

viii. Mary Morse was baptized on 13 August 1620 in Burgate. She died on 14 February 1691/2 in Medfield. [2] She married Deacon Samuel Bullen on 10 August 1641 in Dedham. [1][2] He died on 16 January 1691/2 in Medfield. [2]

ix. Samuel Morse, Jr. was buried on 11 May 1626 in Burgate. [2]

 

 

 

Ancestry of Elizabeth Jasper

Edmund Shepard was born say 1475. He died between 22 January 1523, when he made his will, and 1 March 1523, when it was proved. He married Agnes Unknown. She died between between 16 February and 16 March 1539/40. Edmund and Agnes had a son John, who died between 19 June and 5 July 1529 and who married Elizabeth Unknown; a son Thoms who married Alice ___; son Robert, born say 1505, a daughter Margaret, who married Edmund Grygges, and daughters Ellen, Agnes and Mary. [4]

Robert Shepard was born say 1505. He died between March 1560 and 3 February 1560/1, when his will was proved. He married Agnes Unknown and they had fifteen children (baptisms in Redgrave, Suffolk): i. John; ii. Thomas (buried 18 March 1589 Redgrave, married second Amy Erle in 1572 in Wortham, Suffolk); iii. Robert; iv. Margaret; v. Anne; vi. Edmund (baptized October 1541 and probably died young); vii. Richard (baptized on 25 November 1542); viii. Catherine; ix. Edmund (baptized on 10 May 1547); x. Rose (baptized on 9 August 1549); xi. (Edmund (baptized 23 July 1551); xii. Unknown son (baptized on 23 September 1553); xiii Olyffe (Olive?); xiv. Elizabeth; xv. Henry (baptized on 31 March 1560 and married Anne Knight on 26 September 1588 in Redgrave). [4]

Lancelot Jasper was probably born about 1550. [3] He was buried in February 1616/7 in Redgrave. [3] He married Rose Shepard of Redgrave on 10 December 1574 in Redgrave. [4] Rose was baptized on 9 August 1549 in Redgrave. [4] She was buried on 3 September 1625 in Redgrave. [3] Lancelot and Rose had 11 children. Their baptisms are recorded in Redgrave. [3]: i. William (baptized 6 February 1574/5, living 3 November 1631, married Frances ___); ii. Anne (baptized 28 September 1577); iii. Elizabeth (baptized 8 October 1578, probably died young); iv. Elizabeth (baptized 30 January 1579/80); v. Henry (baptized 26 May 1581, maybe the Henry buried on 27 January 1640/1 in Redgrave, married and had children); vi. Rachel (baptized on 5 August 1583, probably died by 17 February 1616/7); vi. Samuel (baptized 2 February 1685/6, probably died by 17 February 1616/7, married Anne Edwards); viii. Jeremiah (baptized 2 November 1588); Nathaniel (baptized 24 May 1590); Daniel (baptized 23 April 1592); John (baptized on 2 or 11 February 1593/4). The last four were living on 17 February 1616/7.
