ENSIGN SAMUEL KEEP (1670–1755), son of John Keep and Sarah Leonard

Samuel, the son of John and Sarah Keep, was born on 22 August 1670 in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. [Ref] Ensign Samuel Keep of Springfield died on 23 August 1755 in Springfield. [Ref] Samuel Keep married Sarah Colton on 27 February 1695 in Springfield. [Ref]

Sarah, the daughter of Captain Thomas Colton and Sarah Griswold, was born on 25 September 1678. [Ref] Sarah, the wife of Ensign Samuel Keep, died on 20 June 1754 in Springfield. [Ref][Ref]

Samuel’s gravestone in the Longmeadow Cemetery says, “In Memory of Ensign Samuel Keep who died Augst 23d 1755 Aged 85 Years.” [Ref] Sarah's gravestone in the Longmeadow Cemetery says, "In Memory of Mrs Sarah Late Wife of Ensign Samuel Keep who died June 20th 1754 In Her 76th Year." [Ref]

Children of Samuel Keep and Sarah Griswold:

i. Unknown Keep was born on 17 February 1697. [Ref]

ii. John Keep was born on 22 June 1698. [Ref] He died on 28 July 1757. [Ref] He married Abigail Munn of Colchester. [Ref] She died on 5 October 1787, age 87. [Ref] John and Abigail are buried in the Brimfield Cemetery. [Ref]

iii. Samuel Keep was born on 12 November 1700. He died on 9 November 1761 in Springfield. [Ref] Samuel Keep married first Mary Colton of Springfield on 15 July 1735/6 in Springfield. [Ref] Mary, the daughter of John and Joanna Colton, died on 15 February 1737. [Ref] Samuel Keep married second Sarah Bemen on 8 March 1737/8 in Springfield. [Ref] Sarah, the daughter of William and Hannah Beman, was born on 6 March 1618. [Ref] The widow Sarah Keep married [second] John Hale on 2 December 1762 in Springfield. [Ref][Ref] John, the son of Thomas and Experience (Burt) Hale, was born on 17 February 1708 and died on 13 January 1788. [Ref]

Samuel's gravestone in the Longmeadow Cemetery says, "In Memory of Mr Samuel Keep Who died Novbr 9th 1761 In His 62nd Year." [Ref]

iv. Sarah Keep was born on 23 August 1703 in Springfield. [Ref] She died on 24 November 1767. [Ref] She married Daniel Chandler of Enfield on 4 January 1727/8 in Springfield. [Ref] Daniel, the son of Henry and Lydia (Abbot) Chandler, was born on 25 May 1701. [Ref][Ref] He died on 21 July 1785. [Ref]

Sarah's birth record calls her the daughter of John [!] and Sarah.

v. Captain Jabez Keep was born on 10 March 1706 in Springfield. He died on 19 August 1774 in Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He married first Sarah Leonard. He married second Experience Lawrence.

vi. Elizabeth Keep was born on 22 May 1709 in Springfield. [Ref] She "was sick and Died" on 29 July 1720 in Springfield. [Ref]

Elizabeth's gravestone in the Longmeadow Cemetery says, "Here Lyes the Body of Elizabeth Keep who Died the 29 day of July Anno 1720 in the 12 year of her age." [Ref]

vii. Jemima Keep was born on 17 July 1711 in Springfield. [Ref] She married Isaac Griswold of Killingworth on 13 April 1731 in Springfield. [Ref]

viii. Josiah Keep was born on 30 November 1713 in Springfield. [Ref] He died on 29 August 1775. [Ref] He married Loice Noble of Westfield in May 1737. [Ref] She died on 21 or 23 April 1773. [Ref]

ix. Abiah Keep was born on 11 December 1715 in Springfield. [Ref] She married Jonathan Wright of Windsor on 9 June 1737 in Springfield. [Ref]

x. Stephen Keep was born on 26 October 1717 in Springfield. [Ref] He died on 15 January 1790. [Ref] He married Hannah Colton on 12 January 1754 in Springfield. [Ref] Hannah, the daughter of Lieutenant Ephraim and Mary Colton, died on 20 October 1805. [Ref]

xi. Eunice Keep was born on 11 March 1719/20 in Springfield. [Ref] She died on 23 December 1739 in Springfield. [Ref]

xii. Matthew Keep was born on 3 October 1722 in Springfield. [Ref] He died on 29 June 1753. [Ref] He married Abigail Wolcott on 1 December 1743 in Springfield. [Ref] Abigail, the daughter of Henry and Abigail Wolcott, was born on 15 August 17__ in Springfield. [Ref] She died on 4 February 1801. [2, 36:313] She married second David Bowen of Willington on 7 October 1771 in Springfield. [Ref]

Matthew's gravestone in the Longmeadow Cemetery says, "In Memory of Mr Matthew Keep who Died june the 29th 1758 in his 36th Year." [Ref]
