54. EDWARD VOSE (c. 1636–1716) (Robert)

Edward Vose was born about 1636. He died on 29 January 1716, age 80. He married Abigail Sharp by about 1666. [1]

Edward was a selectman in Milton in 1694 and 1695. [2]

Edward wrote his will on 3 February 1713. He mentioned his sons Nathaniel, William and John, his daughters Elizabeth Wadsworth, Martha Wyatt, Sarah Babcock and Grace Palmer and the children of his daughter Jane Houghton. Inventory amounted to real estate worth 1,760 pounds and a personal estate of 140 pounds; it included books. [3]

55. ABIGAIL SHARP (c. 1648­–1712) (Richard)

Abigail Sharp was born about 1648. She died on 18 May 1712 in Milton. [4]

Children of Edward Vose and Abigail Sharp, births of the first ten recorded in Milton: [5]

i. Robert Vose was born on 24 November 1666 in Milton. He died on 22 November 1668, age two, in Milton. [6]

ii. Jane Vose was born on 21 November 1668 in Milton. She died before 8 December 1708. She married Joseph Houghton of Lancaster on 31 October 1693 in Milton. Joseph was the son of Ralph and Jane Houghton, born on 1 (5) 1657 in Lancaster. He died on 22 March 1737. He married second Margaret Reding on 8 December 1708 in Milton. She died between 22 March 1737 and 5 May 1737, when her will was proved. [7]

iii. Abigail Vose was born on 27 July 1670 in Milton.

iv. Captain Nathaniel Vose was born on 17 November 1672 in Milton. He died on 10 October 1753 in Milton. He married Mary Belcher of Milton on 16 December 1696 in Milton. Mary, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Billings) Belcher, was born on 16 October 1670 in Braintree. She died on 22 June 1758 in Milton. [8]

v. William Vose was born on 9 November 1674 in Milton. He died on 6 December 1717 in Milton. He married Mary Badcock of Milton on 3 April 1700 in Milton. Mary, the daughter of Samuel and Hannah (Eams) Badcock, was born on 29 June 1680 in Milton. She died between 6 December 1717 and 13 October 1729, when she was replaced as executrix of her husband’s estate. [9]

vi.  Captain John Vose was born on 20 November 1676 in Milton. He died on 14 July 1734. He married Sarah Clap of Milton on 1 July 1700 in Milton. Sarah, the daughter of Ezra and Abigail (Pond) Clapp, was born on 20 July 1677. She died on 7 March 1732 in Stoughton (later Canton). John and Sarah are buried in the Canton cemetery. [10]

vii. Elizabeth Vose was born on 2 September 1678 in Milton. She died on 5 May 1766. She married John Wadsworth of Milton on 28 December 1698 in Milton. John, the son of Captain Samuel and Abigail (Lindall) Wadsworth, was born on 22 December 1674 in Milton. He died on 31 January 1733/4 in Milton. John and Elizabeth are buried in the Milton cemetery. John was a brother of Reverend Benjamin Wadsworth, the president of Harvard College for 12 years and of Joseph Wadsworth, the treasurer of Boston for 30 years. He was a selectman in Milton for 12 years and moderator of town meetings for five years. He was a representative to the general court in 1717, 1725, 1726, 1732 and 1733. He was elected deacon in 1719 and served until his death. He left an estate valued at 7,082 pounds. [12]

viii.  Martha Vose (#27) was born on 27 August 1680 in Milton. She died after 8 December 1717. She married Jonathan Wyatt.

ix.  Mary Vose was born on 17 February 1682 in Milton.

x.  Sarah Vose was born on 30 August 1684 in Milton. She died on 17 December 1758 in Stonington. She married James Babcock of Stonington on 12 June 1706 in Milton. James, the son of Captain James and Elizabeth (Saunders) Babcock, was born on 23 December 1688 in Westerly. He died on 9 April 1731 in Stonington. James and Sarah are buried in the Pendleton Hill Cemetery. [13]

xi. Grace Vose was born in Milton. She died after 11 April 1727, when she was appointed administratrix of her husband’s estate. She married Walter Palmer on 7 August 1712 in Stonington. Walter was the son of Gershom Palmer (#32). [14]

xii. Bathsua Vose died on 22 September 1704 in Milton. [15]
