Thomas Scott's English Ancestry [1]

Generation 1

George Scott of Bradfield Saint George, co. Suffolk was probably born about 1495. He died in late 1547. He had a wife named Margaret.

Generation 2

Edmund Scott was probably born about 1525/30 in Bradfield Saint George. He married was buried on 14 August 1621 in Rattlesden. He married Joan ___. She was buried on 15 May 1615 in Rattlesden.

Thomas Whatlock of Rattlesden was probably born between 1520 and 1530. He was buried on 25 January 1608/9 in Rattlesden. He married Joan ___.

Generation 3

Henry Scott was baptized on 1 November 1560 in Bradfield Saint George, co. Suffolk. He was buried on 24 December 1624 in Rattlesden. He married Martha Whatlock on 25 July 1594 in Rattlesden. Martha, the daughter of Thomas Whatlock and Joan ___, was baptized on 18 July 1568 in Rattlesden. Martha went to New England with her daughter Elizabeth's family and presumably died in Ipswich.

Thomas Scott, the son of Henry Scott, was baptized on 26 February 1594/5 in Rattlesden, county Suffolk. [1] He died between 8 and 17 March 1653/4. He married Elizabeth, the daughter of Christopher Strutt and Anne Waller, on 20 July 1620 in Rattlesden. [1]

Elizabeth Strutt was baptized on 16 may 1594 in Rattlesden. [1]

Thomas was a glover. [1]

Generation 1

John Waller, yeoman of Rattlesden, was probably born about 1533/5. He was buried on 28 March 1593 in Rattlesden. He was probably the son of Robert Waller the elder of Rattlesden who died in late 1553. He had a wife Joan ___.

Generation 2

Christopher Strutt, yeoman of Rattlesden, was probably born in 1560/2. He was buried on 16 February 1627/8 in Rattlesden. He was probably the son of Robert Strutt the elder of Rattlesden, who was buried there on 4 August 1599. He married first Anne Waller on 14 July 1590 in Rattlesden. Anne, the daughter of John Waller, was baptized on 8 February 1561/2 in Rattlesden and buried on on 22 July 1611. Christopher married second Susan ___.

Thomas and Elizabeth Scott, each 40, came in the Elizabeth in April 1634 with their children Elizabeth, age nine, Abigail, age seven, Thomas, age six, Thomas's mother, his sister Ursula Kimball's family, and Isaac Mixer, age four. [1][2]

Thomas and his family settled in Ipswich. [1] He took the freeman's oath on 4 March 1634/5. [1]

Thomas was a selectman in Ipswich in 1636/7 and constable in 1651. [1] He served on grand juries in 1645, 1648, and 1651 and on trial juries in 1647, 1649, and 1653. [1]

Thomas made his will on 8 March 1653/4; it was proved on 28 March 1654. He left bequests to his daughters Elizabeth, Abigail, Hannah, Sarah, and Mary and his son Thomas. He appointed his brother Richard Kimball, Thomas Rowlinson, Sr., and Edmund Bridges his executors. Inventory was taken on 17 March 1653/4. It amounted to £318-19-11. [1]

Children of Thomas Scott and Elizabeth Strutt:

i. Henry Scott was baptized on 27 February 1621/2 in Brent Eleigh, county Suffolk. [1] He apparently died young.

ii. Elizabeth Scott was baptized on 18 November 1623 in Rattlesden, county Suffolk. She died on 10 February 1691/2 in Bradford. She married John Spofford.

iii. Abigail Scott was baptized on 5 March 1625/6 in Rattlesden. [1] She married Haniell[!] Bosworth. [1] He was born about 1615 and died about 1683. [1]

iv. Thomas Scott was baptized on 15 June 1628 in Rattlesden [1] He died on 6 September 1657 in Ipswich. [1] [3] He married Margaret Hubbard, the daughter of William Hubbard and sister of Reverend William Hubbard of Ipswich. [1] She died in 1678 in Boston. [1] She married second Ezekiel Rogers. [1]

v. Benjamin Scott was baptized on 3 February 1630/1 in Rattlesden and was buried there on 30 August 1633. [1]

vi. Hannah Scott married Edmund Lockwood of Stamford, Connecticut. [1]

vii. Sarah Scott was living in 1661. [1]

viii. Mary Scott died on 26 September 1723. [1] She married Thomas, the son of Nicholas Patch of Wenham. [1]
