FRANCIS LITTLEFIELD (bp. 1619–1700/21), son of Edmond Littlefield and Agnes Austin

Francis, the son of Edmond Littlefield and Agnes Austin, was baptized on 17 June 1619 in Titchfield, Hampshire. [1] He died between 1700 and 1721. [1] He married first Jane Hill. [1] Jane, the daughter of Ralph Hill of Plymouth, Woburn, and Billerica, died on 20 December 1646 in Billerica. [1] Francis married second Rebecca ___ about 1648. [1] He married third as her second husband Mary Wade between 1683 and 1689. [2][3] Mary, the daughter of Jonathan and Susannah Wade, was baptized on 2 October 1633 in Charlestown. [3] She married first William Simonds. [3]

Our Francis was referred to as Francis, Sr. to distinguish him from his brother, Francis, Jr., a carpenter in Wells.

On 14 July 1643 Sir Ferdinando Gorges granted Francis the Elder 50 acres in Wells adjoining the land of Edmond Littlefield; Francis was to pay Sir Ferdinando two shillings and six pence a year. [4, 1: 296]

Francis emigrated to New England with his father about 1637. [1] He was in Wells, Maine in 1643. [1]

Francis was in Woburn in 1646 and Dover, New Hampshire in 1648. [1] He was taxed in Dover in 1648. [5] He returned to Wells shortly after. [1] He is on a 5 July 1653 list of freemen in Wells. [6]

Francis was a farmer, miller, and innkeeper. [1]

In 1663 John, son of John Glydd of Halson, co. Sussex, husbandman, bound himself to Francis Littlefield, Sr. as an apprentice for eight years. [4, 1: 258–9][7]

Francis, his mother, Annas, and his brothers Thomas and Francis, Jr. apparently quarreled over his father's estate and on 17 December 1661 they signed an agreement. Francis was to keep a tract of marsh called Six Acres. Francis, Jr. was give him Wardles Island and a small neck of upland. At her death, Annas was to give her children all the marsh she owned. Francis, Jr. agreed never to molest the three executors—Annas, Francis, Sr., and Thomas. [4, 1: 257–8]

i. Mary Littlefield was born on 14 December 1646 in Woburn. [1] She died in 1719. [8] She married first John Kittridge of Billerica on 2 November 1664. [1] She married second as his fourth wife John French of Billerica on 16 January 1677/8. [1][8, "probably"] Corporal John French, the son of Lieutenant William French, was born about 1635 in England. [8] He died in October 1712. [8] He married first Abigail, the daughter of Henry Cogan of Barnstable, on 21 June 1659. [8] She died on 5 April 1662. [8] He married second Hannah, the daughter of John Burrage of Charlestown on 3 July 1663. [8] She died on 7 July 1667. [8] He married third Mary, the daughter of John Rogers, on 14 January 1668. [8] She died on 16 June 1677. [8]

ii. Sarah Littlefield was born on 16 November 1649. She died in 1735 in Wells. She married first John Wells. She married second William Sayer.

iii. Hannah Littlefield was born on 5 January 1652. [2]

iv. Deliverance Littlefield was born on 5 July 1655 in Wells. [2][9] She died between 1730 and 1733 and probably in May 1732 in Ipswich. [9] She married as his second wife Abraham Tilton. [9] Abraham was born about 1638/42 and died on 28 March 1728 in Ipswich. [9]

Abraham and Deliverance were great-great-great-grandparents of President Millard Fillmore. [9]

v. James Littlefield [1] was born on 2 October 1657. [2] Delorey says that a James Littlefield was killed by Indians in May 1690. [9] This James married first Katherine, the daughter of James and Shua (Starbuck) Heard. [9] Katherine married second John Wooden.

James's father deeded land in Wells to him on 3 May 1683. [4, 6: 271]

vi. Isaac Littlefield [1] was born on 23 January 1660. [2] He may have been killed by Indians. [2]

vi. Abigail Littlefield [1] was born on 26 March 1661/2. [2] She married John Elbridge. [2]

viii. Dorcas Littlefield was born on 4 October 1664. [2]

ix. Phebe Littlefield married John Heard on 27 April 1690. [2]

x. Daniel Littlefield [1][2]

xi. Dependence Littlefield [1] was born about 1671. [2]

xii. Rachel Littlefield (probably) married William Frost on 6 December 1694. [2]
