JOSHUA CHILD (b. 1682), son of Richard Child and Hannah Traine
SARAH STEARNS (b. 1694), daughter of Thomas Stearns and Rebecca Chamberlain
Joshua, the son of Richard and Hannah Child was born on 30 December 1682 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [1] Joshua Child of Weston (originally a part of Watertown) married Sarah Stearns of Billerica, Middlesex County in January 1720/1 in Charlestown. [2][3, 235][4]
Sarah, the daughter of Thomas Stearns and Rebecca Chamberlain, was born on 27 April 1694 in Billerica. [3, 185][5]
Joshua and Sarah lived in Waltham (West Precinct), a part of Watertown until 1738. Sarah owned the covenant there on 19 June 1724 and she was admitted to full communion on 11 February 1728. Their children were baptized there. They were both dismissed to Worcester on 13 January 1733/4. [5]
Joshua was a selectman in Worcester in 1737. [6]
Children of Joshua Child and Sarah Stearns, births recorded in Watertown:
i. Sarah Child was born on 2 February 1721/2. [7, 2: 68]
ii. Joshua Child was born on 26 September 1723. [7, 2: 73] He probably died after 21 April 1780. He married Mary Hinds of Shrewsbury, Worcester County on 2 June 1748 in Worcester, Worcester County. [5][8, 363] Mary, the wife of Joshua, died on 14 April 1766 in Northborough, Worcester County. [9 , 131]
Joshua and Mary had seven children born in Worcester beteen 1749 and 1760. [8, 51]
Joshua Child, Jr. died on 21 April 1780 in Rutland, Worcester County. [10, 219] This was probably Joshua's son, born on 29 April 1749 in Worcester—probably referred to as Joshua Child, Jr. because his father was still alive. [8, 51]
iii. Thomas Child was born on 16 September 1726. [7, 2: 83] He died on 1 February 1812, age 86, in Rutland. [10, 219] He married Anne Bullard on 23 November 1753 in Rutland. [10, 124]
Thomas and Anne had four children born in Rutland between 1754 and 1772. [10, 25]
iv. Hannah Child was born on 10 October 1727. [7, 2: 83] She married Peter Newton of Rutland on 18 May 1758. [10, 124][11]
Peter and Hannah had five children born in Rutland between 1759 and 1770. [10, 72–73]
v. Josiah Child (twin) was born on 20 December 1728. He died between 20 December 1789 and 4 November 1800, probably in Framingham, Middlesex County. He married Experience Read.
vi. Mary Child (twin) was born on 20 December 1728. [7, 2: 85]
vii. Abraham Child was born on 26 April 1732. [7, 2: 97]
