Josiah Cook (c. 1645–1732), son of Josiah Cook and Elizabeth Ring

Deborah Hopkins (b. 1648), daughter of Giles Hopkins and Katherine Wheldon


Josiah Cook was born about 1645 in Plymouth or Eastham. He died on 32 January 1731/2. [1] married Deborah Hopkins on 27 July 1668. [1][2]

The Josiah Cook who married Deborah Hopkins was the son of Josiah and Elizabeth (Ring) Cook. [2]

Deborah Hopkins, the daughter of Giles and Katherine (Wheldon) Hopkins, was born in June 1648 in Yarmouth or Eastham. [1][2]

Children of Josiah Cook and Deborah Hopkins: The names and birth dates of the children are given in [2]

i. Elizabeth Cook was born on 12 October 1669. She apparently died young.

ii. Josiah Cook was born on 12 November 1670. He married Mary Unknown. [3]

iii. Richard Cook was born on 1 September 1672.

iv. Elizabeth Cook was born in June 1674. She married Thomas Newcomb. [2]

v. Caleb Cook was born on 15 November 1676.

vi. Deborah Cook was born on 15 February 1679. She died on 23 April 1745. She married Moses, the son of George Godfrey. [2] He died on 16 April 1743. [2]

Moses and Deborah are buried in the Chatham Old Burial Ground in Chatham. The inscriptions on their gravestones say: [4]

Here rests the body of Mr Moses Godfrey died April ye 16th 1743 in ye 76th year of his age.

Here lyes ye body of Deborah the wife of Mr Moses Godfrey died April ye 23d 1745 in ye 64 year of her age.

vii. Joshua Cook was born on 4 February 1682/3. He married Patience Doane.

viii. Benjamin Cook was born on 28 February 1686.

ix. Martha Cook (perhaps) married Joshua Freeman Grozier. [2]
