John Clark (d. 1674)
John Clark died on 5 February 1673/4 in Milford, Connecticut. [1] He had an unknown first wife, possibly named Elizabeth. He married second Mary (Ward) Fletcher after 1662. [1] Mary, the daughter of Richard and Joyce Ward and widow of John Fletcher of Milford, died on 22 January 1678/9 in Farmington. [1]
John was a soldier in the Pequot War and received a lot in Soldiers' Field in Hartford for his service. [1]
John moved to Saybrook by 1647. [1] He was a deputy for Saybrook in 1649 and a selectman in 1656. [1]
John moved to Norwich briefly in 1664 before settling in Milford. [1] He was admitted to the church there in 1665 and ordained a Ruling Elder on 4 June 1673. [1]
John made his will on 17 February 1672 and his witnesses signed in on 19 January 1673. He mentions his sons John Clark and William Pratt, his wife, Reverend Mr. Roger Newton, and his brother (probably a fellow church member) Samuel Eells. The will was exhibited to the court on 12 February 1673. On 10 June 1674 the court increased the share of the widow Mary and 11 November 1674 it heard the agreement reached by the heirs. [1]
