Mary Hopkins

Captain William Lewis died between 16 July 1689 and 28 August 1690. He married second Mary, the daughter of Ezekiel Cheever.

Captain William Lewis made his will on 16 July 1689. Inventory was taken on 28 August 1690 and it amounted to £1025-19-00. His heirs were his widow, his sons Philip, Samuel, William, Ebenezer, John, James, Ezekiel, and Nathaniel Lewis, and his duaghters Mary Judd, Sarah Boltwood, Hannah Marsh, Felix Selden, and Abigail Lewis. Inventory was exhibted by his widow and John Lewis on 4 September 1690. on 5 November 1690 administration was granted to Philip and William Lewis; the widow having an interst in the estate by jointure. On 6 March 1690/1 it was agreed that Philip—the eldest son—would get a double portion, all the other children would get a single portion, and Mrs. Lewis would get her jointure in "Land and Negroes." On 1 October 1691 there was a distribution to Philip, Ezekiel, Nathaniel, Samuel, Ebenezer, John, James, Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Felix, and Abigail. On 1 June 1707 there was a distribution to Samuel, William, John (deceased), James (deceased), Mary Judd [who was also deceased], Hannah Marsh, and Felix Seldon. [will]

In a probate paper of 7 April 1691, William's widow refers to herself as Mary, the daughter of Ezekiel Cheever. She suggests that the three youngest children [presumably Ezekiel, Nathaniel, and Abigail as they are not mentioned in John Lewis's will] are hers. [will]
