CAPTAIN SAMUEL TURNER (1671–1759), son of Nathaniel Turner and Mehitable Rigby

DESIRE BARKER (1680–1710), daughter of John Barker and Desire Annable


Samuel, the husband of Abigail, was born on 25 February 1671 in Scituate. [1] He died on 3 November 1759, age 88, in Scituate. [1] He married first Desire Barker on 20 November 1700 in Scituate. [1] He married second Abigail Leavitt of Hingham, the daughter of Lieutenant Thomas and Susanna Gill, on 13 November 1718 in Scituate. [1] Abigail Gill, the wife of Captain Samuel Turner, was born in 1686 in Scituate. [1] She died on 12 January or December 1744, age 58, in Scituate. [1] Samuel and Abigail are buried in the old burial ground on Meeting House Lane in Scituate. [2]

Desire Barker was born on 22 September 1680. [3] Desire, the wife of Samuel, died on 12 January 1709/10 in Scituate. [1]

Samuel Turner, gentleman of Scituate, made his will on 21 May 1759. He mentioned his deceased son Nathaniel and Samuel Turner and left bequests to his son James Turner; his grandchildren Benjamin and Job Stetson and Desire Sylvester; his great-grand children, the children of his grandchild Lilly Stetson; his daughter Abigail White; his sister Lydia James; his cousin Isaac Buck; and the Reverend Shearjashab Bourne. [4]

Desire's father John Barker made his will on 5 August 1729. He left bequests to his four grandchildren Nathaniel Turner, Samuel Turner, James Turner, and Lillis Stetson, the children of his deceased daughter Desire Turner. Samuel and his son Samuel posted bond on the estate of Samuel's [step] mother-in-law Sarah Barker on 13 October 1730. [4]

Children of Samuel Turner and Desire Barker: All of their children were baptized on 24 April 1715 in Scituate. [1]

i. Lilly Turner was born on 27 April 1701 in Scituate. [1] She married Benjamin Stetson, Jr. [5]

ii. Nathaniel Turner was born on 20 December 1702 in Scituate. [1] He died on 1 May 1734 in Scituate. [1]

iii. Samuel Turner was born on 26 February 1704/5 in Scituate. [1] He died on 3 June 1734 in Scituate. [1]

iv. Captain James Turner was born on 18 December 1706 in Scituate. . He died on 30 May 1776. He married Mary Turner.

v. Job Turner was born on 9 May 1709 in Scituate. [1] He died on 26 February 1713/4 in Scituate. [1]

Children of Samuel Turner and Abigail Gill:

vi. Abigail Turnerwas born on 26 September 1720 in Scituate. [1] She died on 12 January 1723/4, age three years and four months, in Scituate. [1] There is also a record that says that Abigail, the daughter of Samuel and Abigail, died on 21 January 1722. [1] She is buried in the old burial ground on Meeting House Lane in Scituate. [2]

vii. Abigail Turner was born on 30 May 1725 in Scituate. [1] She married Daniel White of Marshfield.

Abigail is called the daughter of Samuel Turner and the wife of Daniel White of Marshfield in court papers related to her father's estate. She is not named in John Barker's will. [4]
