JOHN RIGBY (d. by 1647)

ISABEL UNKNOWN (d. 1673)


John died by 16 April 1647. He married Isabel Unknown. [1]

Isabel Unknown died on 22 June 1673 in Dorchester. [2] She married second as his second wife Edward Breck in 1647 in Dorchester. [1][3] Edward, the son of Robert and Ann (Hurst) Breck, was baptized in August 1596 in All Saints, Wigan, Lancashire and died on 2 November 1622 in Dorchester. [3] He married first Mary Unknown by 7 April 1623. [3] She died about 1645. [3] She married third as his second wife Anthony Fisher on 14 November 1663 in Dorchester. [1][3] Anthony, the son of Anthony and Marie (Fiske) Fisher, was baptized on 23 April 1591 in Syleham, co. Suffolk and died on 18 April 1671 in Dorchester. [2] Anthony died on 18 April 1671, age 80, in Roxbury. [1] He married first Alice Unknown. [2]

John was admitted to the Dorchester church in early 1638. [4] He was granted land in Dorchester on 18 March 1637/8. [4] He was a freeman on 18 May 1642. [1]

Edward and Isabel apparently spent a year in Lancaster. [3]

Edward wrote his will on 30 October 1662; it was proved on 11 December 1662. He named his children John, Mary, Elizabeth, and Susanna, and named Isabel his executor. [3]

Isabel wrote her will on 20 September 1671; it was proved on 3 July 1673. She left bequests to Abigail, the daughter of her daughter Turner, her five daughters, her son-in-law Thomas Holman, her unmarried daughter Susanna, and her son-in-law Samuel Paul. [3]

Inventory was taken on John's estate on 16 April 1647. [5] His will was proved on 9 December 1747. [5]

Children of John Rigby and Isabel Unknown:

i. Samuel Rigby (presumed son) was born say 1636. He married first Elizabeth George about 1660 in Dorchester. [6] He married second Hannah Unknown by 1676 in Dorchester. [6]

ii. Elizabeth Rigby was baptized on 3 March 1638/9 in Dorchester. [4] She died on 1 March 1702/3 in Milton. [ALH]

iii. Alice Rigby was born say 1640. She married Thomas Holman on 9 February 1663/4. [1] Thomas was born on 6 August 1641 in Dorchester and died on 4 August 1704 in Milton. [ALH]

Thomas Holman was a cordwainer of Milton. [ALH]

iv. Mehitable Rigby was baptized on 23 April 1643 in Dorchester. She died on 22 March 1680 in Scituate. She married Nathaniel Turner.

Children of Edward Breck and Isabel Unknown:

iv. Mary Breck was baptized on 13 August 1648 in Dorchester. [3] She died on 25 August 1720 in Dorchester. [3] She married first Samuel Paul on 9 January 1666/7 in Dorchester. [3] He died on 3 November 1690 in Dorchester. [3] She married second John Toman on 15 June 1692 in Dorchester. [3] John, the son of Thomas and Sarah Tolman, was born on 27 July 1642 in Dorchester. [3] He married first Elizabeth Collins. [3]

v. John Breck was baptized on 27 October 1650 in Dorchester. [3] He died on 17 February 1690/1 in Dorchester. [3] He married Susanna Unknown. [3]

vi. Elizabeth Breck was baptized on 24 May 1653 in Dorchester. [3] She died on 6 April 1691 in Dorchester. [3] She married John Minot on 11 March 1670/1 in Dorchester. [3] John, the son of John and Lydia (Butler) Minot, was born on 22 January 1647/8 in Dorchester and died there on 26 January 1690/1. [3]

vii. Susanna Breck was baptized on 26 November 1654 in Dorchester. [3] She married John Harris of Boston on 20 March 1674/5 in Dorchester. [3]
