MICHAEL JOHNSTON
MARY HANCOCK
Michael Johnston and his wife Mary Hancock are said to have come from Londonderry, Ireland to Londonderry, New Hampshire in 1727 or 1728. [1] They soon moved to the part of Haverhill that became Hampstead, Rockingham, New Hampshire. [1]
Jane Johnston of Haverhill, New Hampshire was the sister of the Honorable Charles Johnston of Haverhill, New Hampshire. [2] Whitcher does not list Jane as a daughter of Michael and Mary. [1]
Children of Michael Johnston and Mary Hancock: (order uncertain)
i. Jane Johnston married Thomas Crawford. Little [3] asserts that Jane is the daughter of Michael Johnston and Mary Hancock. There appears to be no evidence of this.
ii. Miriam Johnston was born on 31 August 1728 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. [1] She married Eben Mudgett of Hampstead and Weare. [1]
iii. John Johnston died in 1756 in Hampstead and is buried in the cemetery there with his parents. [1]
iv. Michael Johnston died in 1762.
Michael was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars. He was a private in the seventh company of Blanchard's regiment from 28 April to October 1755 against the French forts. [1] He was a private in the fourth company of Colonel Peter Gilman's regiment fro 22 September 1755 to the end of the campaign. [1] He was a private in Captain John Hazen's company of Goff's regiment from 5 March 1760 to the end of the war in November. [1]
Whitcher [1] says:
v. Sarah Johnston married Unknown Thomson. [1]
vi. Charles Johnston was born on 29 May 1737. [1] He married Ruth Marsh on 31 May 1762. [1] He died on 5 March 1813 in Haverhill, New Hampshire. [1] Ruth, the daughter of Ephraim and Hannah (Smith) Marsh, was born on 22 June 1739 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. [1] She died on 29 August 1816 in Haverhill, New Hampshire. [1]
Charles was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars. Along with his brother Michael, he was a private in the fourth company of Colonel Peter Gilman's regiment fro 22 September 1755 to the end of the campaign. [1] He was a private in the 11th company of Meserve's regiment in the Crown Point Expedition of 1756 and served seven months, as will as serving in the same regiment in 1757. [1] He was a quartermaster in Captain John Hazen's company of Goff's regiment from 5 March 1760 to the end of the war in November. [1]
Whitcher [1] says of Charles:
vii. Robert Johnston was born on 3 September 1738. [1] Robert was married four times and had six children. [1]
Robert was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars. Along with his brother Charles, he was a private in the 11th company of Meserve's regiment in the Crown Point Expedition of 1756 and served seven months, as will as serving in the same regiment in 1757. [1] Robert was also a soldier in the Revolutionary War, serving in Captain Thomas Johnson's company of Minute Men in 1775 and Peter Gilman's regiment in 1776 in Captain Thomas Johnson's company, scouting and guarding, for 57 days. [1] In October 1778 he was commissioned lieutenant colonel of the fourth regiment. [1-
Robert was an early settler of Newbury, building a two-story house and keeping a tavern. [1]
