John Shackford (d. 1786), son of Samuel Shackford and Abigail Richards

Dorcas Lovejoy (1701–by 1751), daughter of Nathaniel Lovejoy and Dorothy Hoyt

John Shackford died on 2 November 1786 in Chester, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. [1][2] John of Portsmouth, Rockingham County married first Dorcas Lovejoy of Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts on 25 October 1727 in Portsmouth. [3][4] He married second the widow Hannah Lancaster of Metheun, Essex County on 27 November 1751 in Methuen. [4]

Dorcas Lovejoy, the daughter of Nathaniel Lovejoy and Dorothy Hoyt, was born in 1701 in Andover. [4]

John of Portsmouth was probably the son of Samuel and Abigail Shackford of Portsmouth. The circumstantial evidence is that Samuel Shackford had a son John—he named him in his will—and John named his third son Samuel.

John was a shoemaker. [2] He came to Chester from Andover. [2] He was an inhabitant of Portsmouth in 1711. He signed a list of those entitled to share in the distribution of the commons with his mark. [5]

John had a daughter who married Simon French. [2]

Children of John Shackford and Dorcas Lovejoy:

i. John Shackford died by 10 June 1779, when his will was proved. [2] He married Sarah, the daughter of Lieutenant Ebenezer Dearborn. [2] She died in 1814. [2] He might be the unknown son born in 1735.

ii. Theodore Shackford was probably born about 1728, based on his marriage. He died on 14 October 1809. [6] He married Mary Bartlett on 14 February 1754. [2][6] She died on 1 April 1807. [6]

Theodore lived in Allenstown, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.
