Joseph Morgan, Sr. was born on 29 October 1646 [recorded in Preston, but probably in Roxbury]. [1] He was baptized on 29 November 1646 in Roxbury. [1][2] He died before 5 April 1704. Joseph of New London, the son of James Morgan, Sr., married Dorothy of New London, the daughter of Thomas Parke, sometime in April 1670 in New London. [1]
Dorothy Morgan, the daughter of Thomas (Robert) Parke and Dorothy (Tompson) Parke was born on 6 March 1652 [in New London, but recorded in Preston] [1] Dorothy, the wife of Joseph Morgan, was baptized the same day as her sister Alice Parke—12 Febuary 1670—in New London. [3] She was alive on 8 July 1726.
Joseph and Dorothy were ancestors of Diana, Princess of Wales. [4]

Dorothy, the wife of Joseph was baptized on 12 February 1670, and her sister Alice Parke was baptized the same day in New London. [1] Dorothy (Parke) Morgan, the wife of Joseph, was confirmed on 28 June 1671 in New London. [1] Dorothy was admitted to full communion on 25 November 1691. Benson comments that this church record probably an error; she was likely admitted earlier. [1]
Joseph and Dorothy probably moved from New London to Preston sometime between 1683 and 1689.
Inventory of the estate of Joseph Morgan was taken on 5 April 1704. The probate records name his children Joseph, age 32, Dorothy, age 28, Ann, age 25, Martha, age 23, Margaret, age 17, Deborah, age ten, and Anna, age six. [1]
On 8 July 1726 Dorothy Whitter of Preston, Joseph Perkins of Norwich, Martha Perkins of Norwich, Samuel Loomer[?], Anna Loomer[?], Annah Davison of Mansfield, Ebenezer Heberd of Windham, and Margaret Heberd of Windham received their full estate acknowledged receipt of their portion of the estate of their father Joseph Morgan of Preston and released their brother Joseph Morgan of Preston from any remaining right in the estate, excepting on lands laid out to Peter Davison and Joseph Perkins and their wives. [1]
Also on 8 July 1726, Joseph Morgan's estate sold property to Joseph Whittier. Those participating were his widow Dorothy and her children Joseph Morgan of Freehold, New Jersey, Dorothy Whitter of Preston, Ann Davison of Mansfield, Joseph Perkins of Norwich and his wife Martha, Ebenezer Heberd of Windham and his wife Margaret, and Samuel Loomer of Norwich and his wife Anna. [1]
Children of Joseph Morgan and Dorothy Parke:
i. Reverend Joseph Morgan was born on 6 November 1671 in New London (also recorded in Preston). He was baptized on 24 March 1671/2 in New London. [1] He died in 1742 in New Jersey. [1] He married Sarah Emans on 14 October 1696 in Gravesend, Kings County, New Jersey. [1] Sarah was the daughter of John and Sarah (Van Salee) Emans of Gravesend. [1]
John served as a Presbyterian minister in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey between 1697 and 1738. [1] In 1738 he was a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church in Freehold and Middletown, New Jersey. [1]
Joseph received an honorary degree from Yale in 1719 or 1720. [1] On 8 July 1726 he was living in Freehold, New Jersey. He executed a deed in Maidenhead, Hunterdon County, New Jersey on 29 May 1731. [1]
ii. Dorothy Morgan was born on 25 February 1675 in New London (also recorded as 29 February 1675/6 in Preston). [1] She died in 1759. [1] She married first Ebenezer Whitter on 5 May 1693 in Preston. [1] Ebenezer was the son of Josiah (William) and Elizabeth (Wheeler) Whitter. [1] She married second Daniel Brewster on 19 December 1727 in Preston. [1] Daniel, the son of Benjamin Brewster (Jonathan, William) and Ann (Addis) (Darte) Brewster and the widower of Hannah Gager, was born on 1 March 1667. [1]
On 17 April 1705 Ebenezer Whitter acknowledged receipt of Dorothy's portion of her father's estate from Dorothy and [her brother] Joseph Morgan. [1]
Dorothy was apparently widowed and living in Preston on 8 July 1726. [1]
iii. Ann (Anne) Morgan was born on 10 November 1678 in New London (also recorded in Preston). [1] She married Peter Davison on 6 January 1695/6 in Preston. [1] Peter, the son of Daniel and Margaret (Low) Davison, was born say 1670 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts and died about 17124 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut. [1]
Peter and Anna jointed the church in Preston in September 1700. [1]
On 18 April 1705 Peter Davison acknowledged receipt of Anne's portion of her father's estate from Dorothy and [her brother] Joseph Morgan. [1]
Ann was alive, apparently a widow, and living in Mansfield on 8 July 1726. [1]
Torrey says that she married second Jeremiah Ripley, but it was probably Ann (Denison) (Miner) Denison who married him. [1]
iv. Martha Morgan was born on 20 March 1681 in New London (also recorded as 22 March in Preston). She died on 23 or 30 October 1754. She married first Joseph Perkins. She married second Joseph Lothrop in 1727.
v. Hannah Morgan was born on 3 December 1683 in New London (also recorded as 3 December 1673[!] in Preston). [1] She died on 8 August 1697 in Preston. [1] She married Ebenezer Hibbard (Hebert) on 16 March 1709. [1] Ebenezer, the son of Robert (Robert) and Mary (Walden) Hibbard, was born in May 1782 in Wenham, Massachusetts and died between 8 July 1726 and 9 January 1732/3. 1]
vi. Margaret Morgan was born on 28 July 1686 in Preston. [1]
On 29 May 1708 Margaret Morgan acknowledged receipt of the her portion of her father's estate from her mother Dorothy Morgan. [1] She married Ebenezer Heberd of Windham.
Ebenezer and Margaret were alive and living in Windham on 8 July 1726. [1]
vi. Abigail Morgan was born on 10 February 1688/9 In Preston. [1] She died on 28 May 1695 in Preston. [1]
vi. Deborah Morgan was born on 31 May 1694 in Preston. [1] She was baptized on 12 August 1694 in Stonington. 1] She probably died between 1704 and 8 July 1726. 1]
vii. Anna Morgan was born on 16 December 1697 in Preston. [1] She died after 7 February 1787. 1] She married Samuel Loomer on 22 May 1718 in Norwich. 1] Samuel, the son of Stephen and Mary (Miller) Loomer, was born in 1692, probably in New London, and died on 9 December 1786 in Norwich. [1]
On 31 March 1719 Samuel and Anna Loomer acknowledged receipt of forty pounds from their mother Dorothy Morgan. [1]
Samuel and Anna were alive and and living in Norwich on 8 July 1726. [1]
