Hannah Thurston (1693–1780), daughter of John Thurston and Hannah Cary


John, the son of Joseph and Hannah Cary, was born on 25 June 1695 in Windham, Windham County, Connecticut. [1] He died on 11 January 1776, age 80, in Windham. [1][2] John and Hannah Thurston published their intention to marry on 8 February 1715/6 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. The Rehoboth town records say that they married on 16 May 1716, but there is an annotation "crossed on book." [3]

Hannah, the daughter of John and Hannah Thurston, was born on 8 June 1693 in Medfield, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. [4] Mrs. Hannah Cary, wife to Mr. John Cary, died on 5 June 1780, age 86. [2]

John and Hannah are buried in the Old Scotland Cemetery North in Scotland, Windham County. [2]

John and his brother Joseph went to Scotland (then in the town of Windham) and settled on Merrick's Brook on land given to them by their father some time around 1710. [5]

On 17 Mar 1718/9 John and Sarah Carpenter and Bethiah Thurston, all of Rehoboth, acknowledged a deed dated 12 November 1718 by which they and John and Hannah Cary, both of Windham, conveyed to David Thurston 3/7 of the interest in Rehoboth real estate that John Thurston had left to his daughters. [6]

Hannah was admitted to the church in Windham on 4 September 1726. John was a communicant that year. [7]

Mr. John Cary was on a committee in Scotland to procure a minister on 22 June 1732. [5]

John was a member of the church in Scotland on 22 October 1735. [7]

John Cary died insolvent. In March 1777 the court ordered his real and personal estate to be sold. In December 1777, his administrator, [his son] John Cary, reported that he had sold 85 acres with buildings for 500 pounds, a four-acre lot for £7-15-00, and the personal estate for £0-16-00. Probate was on 30 December and John's widow was allowed £12-19-08. John's principal creditors were Daniel and Joshua [?] Lathrop, Joshua Perkins, and Nathaniel and Jerusha Cary. [8]

i. Deacon John Cary was born on 12 April 1717. He died on 4 May 1788, age 71, and is buried in the Old Scotland Cemetery North. [2] John, Jr. married Rebecca Rudd on 13 November 1740 in Scotland. [1][7] Rebecca, the daughter of Nathaniel Rudd, died in 1797. [9] She is buried in the Old Scotland Cemetery. [2]

John, Jr. was admitted to the church in Scotland on 23 August 1741. [7]

Deacon Cary of Scotland died in 1788. [Wind]

ii. Lieutenant Benajah Cary was born on 7 March 1718/9. He died on 11[?] March 1773. He married Deborah Perkins.

iii. Phebe Cary was born on 22 July 1721. She died on 10 October 1738 in Windham. [1]

iv. Joseph Cary was born on 4 August 1723. He married Abigail Hibbard on 10 December 1747 in Windham. [1][7] Abigail, the wife of Joseph, died on 29 October 1753, age 29, in Kent, Litchfield, Connecticut. [1]

v. Mary Cary was born on 21 October 1725. Marcy Baker died on 23 March 1814, age 88. [2] Mary ("Mercy") married John Baker, Jr. on 17 December 1744 in Windham. 1][7] He died on 26 February 1815, age 98. [2]

John and Marcy are buried in the Old Scotland Cemetery North. [2]

vi. William Cary was born on 12 December 1727. He was baptized on 11 February 1728 in Windham. [7] He died on 9 December 1742/3 in Windham. [1]

vii. Jonathan Cary was born on 24 August 1729. He was baptized on 5 October 1729 in Windham. [7] He died on 10 February 1742/3 in Windham. [1]

viii. Captain Nathaniel Cary was born on 1 November 1731. He was baptized on 20 February 1732 in Windham. [7] Captain Nathaniel died on 22 November 1776, age 45, in Windham. [1][2] He married Jerusha Downer on 6 January 1757 in Windham. [1]

Nathaniel and Jerusha are buried in the Old Scotland Cemetery North. [2]

Jerusha, the wife of Nathaniel, was admitted to the church in Scotland in January 1758. [7]

ix. Doctor Samuel Cary was born on 13 June 1734. He was baptized on 4 August 1734 in Windham. [7] He died in January 1784 in Lyme, Grafton County, New Hampshire. [9] He married Deliverance Grant on 7 January 1762. [9] Deliverance was born on 23 May 1743 in Bolton, Tolland County, Connecticut. [9] She died in 1810 in Cincinnati, Ohio. [9] She married second Captain John Strong of Thetford, Orange County, Vermont. [9]

Samuel graduated from Yale in 1755 and was a physician. [9]

Samuel was admitted to the church in Scotland on 19 June 1757. [7] He went to Lyme in 1768. [9]

He might be the "Dr. Sa ... Ca ..." who was buried in the Gilbert Cemetery in Lyme. [2]

After the death of her second husband, Deliverance went to Cincinnati in 1802. [9]
