JONATHAN WHITCOMB (1749–1822), son of Israel Whitcomb and Azubah Houghton
RELIEF FYFE (b. 1750), daughter of James Fyfe and Patience Butler
Jonathan, the son of Israel and Azubah Whitcomb, was born on 27 April 1749 in Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.1 He died in 1822.2 He married Relief Fyfe on 1 June 1773 in Bolton.1
Relief, the daughter of James and Patience Fyfe, was born on 27 January 1750 in Bolton.1,3
Jonathan moved to Florida, Berkshire County, Massachusetts and was one of the first selectman on 22 August 1805.2 He was a carpenter and a miller; he was lame.2
Jonathan and Relief had ten children.3
Children of Jonathan Whitcomb and Relief Fyfe:
i. Relief Whitcomb was born on 4 January 1744.2 Relief, the wife of William Lincoln, died on 27 October 1786, in Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts.4 She married first Hooker Sawyer on 2 October 1766 in Bolton.1 Hooker, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Sawyer, was born on 3 November 1744 in Bolton.1 Hooker, the husband of Relief, died on 12 November 1772 in Bolton.1 Relief married second as his second wife Lieutenant William Lincoln of Leominster on 27 April 1773 in Bolton.1 William was born about 1738. Lieutenant William Lincoln died on 22 February 1814, age 76, of typhus fever, in Leominster.4 William married first Prudence Buss on 26 May 1767 in Leominster.4 Prudence, the wife of William and daughter of Stephen Buss, died on 22 October 1772, age 26 years, in Leominster.4 William married third Sarah Merriam of Berlin District on 4 October 1787 in Berlin, Worcester County, Massachusetts.4 Sarah, the widow of William, died on 12 February 1835, age 89 in Leominster.4
ii. Jonathan Whitcomb married a daughter of Samuel Whitcomb.2 She was born in 1795.2
Jonathan moved to Canada, and then to Leon, New York.2
iii. Sarah Whitcomb was baptized on 3 September 1786 in Templeton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. She died on 12 September 1838. She married Jeremy Slocum.
iv. Patience Whitcomb was baptized on 3 June 1787 in Templeton.5 Seney Whitcomb married Silas Osgood on 29 September 1781 in Templeton.5 Silas, the son of Joshua and Huldah Osgood, was baptized on 29 September 1781 in Templeton.5 He died on 11 February 1851 in Parma, Monroe County, New York.6
Osgood says that Silas Osgood married Asenath Whitcomb.6 "Seney" might be a nickname for either Patience or Asenath. Silas and Seney named their first two children Silas and Patience and their fourth child was named Jonathan.6
v. Polly Whitcomb was baptized on 21 June 1789 in Templeton.5
vi. Betsey Whitcomb married Stephen Osgood.2
