DEACON ISRAEL TUPPER (1666–1745), son of Captain Thomas Tupper and Martha Mayhew

ELIZABETH GIFFORD (1664–1701), daughter of John Gifford and Elishua Crowell

Israel, the son of Thomas Tupper and Martha Mayhew, was born on 22 September 1666 in Sandwich. [1][2] He died in 1745 in Sandwich. [2] He married first Elizabeth Gifford in about 1690 [2] or by 1692. [3] He married second Elizabeth Bacon of Barnstable on 31 August 1704 in Barnstable. [2][4] Elizabeth, the daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah (Hinckley) Bacon was born on 11 April 1680. [2] She was the granddaughter of Thomas Hinckley—the last governor of Plymouth Colony. [2]

Elizabeth, the daughter of John Gifford and Elishua Crowell, was born on 25 February 1664[/5?]. [2] Elizabeth, the wife of Israel, died on 19 October 1701 in Sandwich. [1]

Israel's father Thomas Tupper named his sons Thomas and Israel the executors of his will of 1706. He left Israel land with the intent that Israel's sons Thomas and Israel should inherit it after their father's death. [5]

Elizabeth Gifford's father referred to her as his deceased daughter Elizabeth Tupper in his will of 9 April 1709. [6]

Israel was chosen selectman of Sandwich in 1704 and served for ten years. [2]

When he arrived in Sandwich, church members helped Reverend Benjamin Fessenden construct his home and tend to his land. On 27 and 28 June 1729 Deacon Tupper and his sons Israel and Rowland helped set the "clamp of brick" for his cellar. On 7 and 15 July Deacon Tupper helped with the underpinning. On 8 July he helped with the mowing of hay and on 1 August he helped with spreading and carting hay. [7]

Deacon Israel Tupper and his wife Elizabeth are on a March 1730 list of Sandwich families. [7]

The births and baptisms of Israel's children are all recorded in Sandwich. [1]
