JOSIAH WHITE, son of JOHN WHITE and JOANNA WEST
MARY RICE
Josiah White married Mary Rice of Marlborough on 28 (9) 1678. [MVRL]
Josiah was chosen tax collector in Lancaster on 28 May 1684. [ERLM] He was pain 20 shillings for killing a wolf in 1688. [ERLM]
On 14 April 1704—during Queen Anne's War—Sergeant Josiah White was commander of a garrison in Lancaster. [ERLM]
Children of Josiah and Mary White:
i. Sarah White was born on 21 October 1680 in Lancaster. [MVRL]
ii. Deacon Josiah White was born on 15 September 1682 in Lancaster. [MVRL]
Deacon Josiah White was prominent in Lancaster. [ERLM]
iii. Captain John White was born on 29 September 1684 in Lancaster. [MVRL] He died before January 1725/6.
John was a blackmith by trade. [ELRM] He was relatively affluent: inventory on his estate, taken in January 1725/6, amounted to 1,220 pounds. [ERLM]
iv. Thankful White was born on 27 March 1689 in Lancaster. She married Jonathan Houghton.
v. Jonathan White was born about 1692. Jonathan, the son of Josiah and brother of Captain John White, was killed by Indians on 16 July 1707, age 15, in Lancaster. [MVRL][ERLM]
