RICHARD CARVER (c. 1577–1638/41)

MARGARET SKURRIE (d. by 1622)


Richard Carver may have been born about 1577. He died between 18 December 1638 and 9 September 1641 in Watertown. He married first Margaret Skurrie on 24 November 1614 in Filby, county Norfolk. [1] He married second Elizabeth ___. [1] She was buried on 1 December 1622 in Filby. [1] He married third Grace Walker on 7 July 1623 in St. Stephen's Norwich. [1] She died on 20 July 1671 in Watertown. [1] She married second as his third wife Michael Barstow by 1642. [1] Michael, the son of Michael Barstow, was baptized on 17 November 1600. [1] He died on 23 June 1674 in Watertown. [1] He married first Grace Halstead on 16 February 1624/5 in Halifax. [1] Grace, the daughter of Abraham and Susan (Whitley) Halstead, was baptized on 16 March 1597 in Halifax. [1] He married second by 5 December 1635 Mercy ___. [1] She died by 1642 in Charlestown. [1]

Richard "Carvear," husbandman of Skratby in county Norfolk, aged 60, was one of the passengers examined on 11 April 1637 before being transported to New England on the John and Dorothy of Ipswich or the Rose of Yarmouth. He was traveling with his wife Grace, aged 40, and his two children Elizabeth and Susanna, aged 18, "being twynes." He brought three servants: Isaac Hart, Thomas Flagg, and Marable Underwood. [2] The ages in these records are not reliable.

Richard made his will on 18 December 1638 and it was sworn to in September 1641. He left 30 pounds to his daughters Elizabeth and Susanna. When his widow Grace became the third wife of Michael Barstow, these obligations passed to Michael's estate. [3]

Children of Richard Carver and Margaret Skurrie:

i. Marie Carver was baptized on 21 December 1615 in Filby. [1] There is no further record of her. [1]

i. Elizabeth Carver (twin) was baptized on 15 October 1618 in Filby She married William Randall.

ii. Susanna Carver (twin) was baptized on 15 October 1618 in Filby. She married William Perry. [3]

William was a planter of Scituate. [3]
